Like Carter before him, and like half the elected and unelected leaders of Europe, Obama bet everything that he had on Political Islam and has no interest in looking back to find out how his bet did.

That's a cute trope about "it's turtles all the way down", but methinks the author does not register Obama's real motives in Egypt. Perhaps he thinks accusing Obama of being a closet jihadist and Arabist is declasse' -- forbidden by the bien-pensant masters of American opinion.

Instead, he'll be listed among Obama's victims, deceived and betrayed.

Exchanging beardless dictators for bearded ones? No, exchanging moderately secular dictators for fanatical Muslim ones.

Obama made a mistake? No, he did it on purpose. This was EXACTLY what he wanted. Why else would he send Morsi a batch of jet fighters as a reward for the recent attacks on Israel from the Sinai?

Curious that Obama seems to make the same “mistake” in every country that he touches.
