They “did not want any trouble,” they said on the video. To the black mob that confronted them, threatened them, beat them and robbed them, it was no trouble at all.
So they grabbed their iPhones, but not before the girls fought back to retrieve them. Unsuccessfully.
All the while one of the members of the crew was rolling video.
Members of this mob call themselves the 44th Street Crew in Southeast Washington. For those not familiar with the different sections of Washington, that is not the lobbyist/media/functionary dinner-party part of town.
Reporters at the Fox affiliate in Washington seemed surprised at the mob violence. But to people who ride the Metro, it was just another day.
Metro police have seen so much of it they are ready with instructions for riders who encounter it: Resistance is futile:

No, they aren't. They're slanting their news coverage to fit their political agenda--as with the recent union violence in Michigan, which only Fox News covered.
I lived in S.E. in the mid 60s, it was a crap hole even then, I imagine it's worse now.
I was referring to the stuff that the lib media doesn’t cover. I don’t recall seeing these WMATA incidents in the news, never mind a slanted appearance therein.
I suspect the amount, and types, of drugs being consumed has a lot to do with the sharp increase of black crime. Prior to 1980, only a relative few went harder than marijuana, at the very least, because the other stuff was just to expensive.
Than came crack, and other cheap but highly addictive drugs. My experience, through observation, is that drugs are at the root of probably 90% of all crime.

I was in Lebanon and Israel during the 1983 war. I felt safer there than in DC.
Commonplace in “the Age of Obama.” There is no doubt that the policies and pronouncements of the 0bumble administration has emboldened the criminal element among the black population.

This is how the story leads off, because they have made this the story. If DC is anything like Newark NJ, then the only time whites (usually men) are there after dark is to buy drugs or prostitutes.
Whatever their motive is, I’m glad the media wants to know why 2 white women would ever be near such animals.

NYC was much worse than that, at least 10 years earlier (kids starting out sniffing glue, etc.). The white flight from the related crime made the city unrecognizable by 1970.

I have written, twice, to both of my Senators and to my Congressman asking them to introduce legislation for this purpose. I've even been in a situation, right in the District, where I would have drawn my weapon if I was not such a law-abiding citizen. It is a DISGRACE that Congress won't deal with this, using one of their few ACTUAL constitutional responsibilities.
That having been said, a ten-on-one assault in a crowded subway car is a tough shoot any way you look at it. No matter what, you still own the bystanders.

Washington DC Metro Transit Police have arrested two juveniles after an alleged cell phone robbery led to a fight on Metro. The incident was captured on camera.
The suspects call themselves the 44th Street Crew. The fight was filmed by one of the gang members.
The video, which was posted on Facebook, shows the suspects intimidating several young girls on a Green Line Metro train.
One of the girls whose phone was grabbed fought fiercely to get it back.
Metro Transit Police Deputy Chief Ron Pavlik says if passengers are confronted with this type of situation, they recommend giving up their property.
“There’s nothing worth fighting over and getting assaulted for,” says Pavlik. “Be a good witness at that point,” adds Pavlik. Call 911.
There are a lot of ways to deal with this situation better.”
