Whether sold by prescription or over the counter will not change the stats of pill problems.

A trained physician who knows the contraindications would not write a prescription for those drugs. For example, if I knew someone had a previous deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism I would never write that prescription for that patient. If obtainable only by prescription that person wouldn not be put in danger because I would never write that prescription.

Quick which one is the right one? Perhaps you could ask your friend or the clerk.
Asserting there wouldn’t be more problems is a fallacy.
