The Los Angeles dad executed in a mob-style hit in midtown may have been a drug courier and police are looking at missing cash as a possible motive in his death.
A police source said detectives are pursuing two new developments in the Monday murder of Brandon Woodard, 31, and both leads are linked to drug operations.
Woodard may have been killed because drug money earmarked for dealers in the city was confiscated while he was in California and he wasnt able to replace the cash, believed to be tens of thousands of dollars.
Detectives are also chasing a lead on a package sent from California to some associates in Queens. Its not clear if it contained money or cash, but it came up short, and Woodard may have been sent to smooth things over, a source said.
NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly said neither the shooter nor the getaway driver has been identified, but police sources said detectives believe they know who drove the Lincoln MKZ that day. He is not yet in custody.
Investigators got a break in the case Wednesday after tracking down the woman and the man whose names are on the rental agreement for the Lincoln.
The woman works at Avis, in Huntington Station, where the car was rented. A source told the Daily News that Avis was already investigating the site after noticing a strange pattern of employees renting cars on behalf of unidentified third parties.
Theres a lot of stories going on. Were not allowed to say anything, a clerk at the Huntington office said Thursday.
Avis spokesman John Barrows told the Daily News the company had no comment but is cooperating with authorities....

Another Swede on a wild rampage, right?
Boy, talk about a mark, head down, texting, oblivious
to his surroundings, it’s lucky they didn’t steal his
shoes off his feet.
Much like hoodie criminal who bashed zimmerman, the scummedia posted pictures of a chior boy brutally murdered by a racist, the first story I heard about this “victim” was he was a law student studying in Manhattan.
He was a law student studying in CA - how to stay out of jail and keep his mortgage-fraud mother out of jail. He already had 20 arrests and one felony conviction, so I don’t think he could even sit for the Bar. So he was just kind of a jail-house lawyer without the jail (at that particular moment).
If the cops are “looking” at the money then it can’t be missing, can it?
Beat me to it.
Lose the electronic devices. Go to where the hooty owls and coyotes make noise at night. Sleep with one eye open. Head on a swivel.

Hey, that was my question.
No kidding... given his line of work, it’s a miracle Darwin didn’t call this guy home years ago.
So much for the poverty-causes-crime crowd....
