DFL Rep. Keith Ellison appeared on TPT's Almanac tonight to discuss the shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut. During the interview, Ellison argued for greater gun control measures.
"The NRA (National Rifle Association) is strong and many of them (members of Congress) take the position that any gun position is going to lead to the position of taking away of all guns," Ellison said. "This is not rational. We need sane, sensible gun regulation and we need it now."
Ellison says his top initiatives would be to address high capacity clips that hold multiple rounds of bullets and greater background checks that require people to submit to background checks before purchasing weapons at gun shows.
"Those are things that we can do now that won't interfere with the right to own a gun but hopefully will avoid and keep guns out of the hands out of the people who are violently unstable," Ellison said.
Ellison also says there needs to be greater access to mental health treatment. He said that would help identify early signs of mental instability which he says lead some to take violent acts.
Ellison has been the most vocal of Minnesota's Congressional delegation to today's shooting. Many others suggested that today was not the day to discuss whether stricter gun control measures are needed.
The muzzies would love nothing better than an unarmed America. I can see where this clown is coming from.
We need to take this as a serious threat to our liberties and fight this. Just waiting until 2014 won’t work.

We have gun regulations coming out the wazzoo already. But ya know, someone bent on murder and suicide probably isn't going to give a big fat whoop if he/she is breaking 5 laws or 50 laws. All those laws are going to do is inhibit law abiding citizens from being in a position and equipped to deal with a situation in an immediate and conclusive manner.
So yeah, additional gun control laws and regulations have zero effect on the evil and insane. Their only real purpose is in fact to take firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens, leaving them defenseless. Which is how we end up with things like we have today.
Thank you liberal gun-grabbers and hand wringers for ensuring that no responsible, law-abiding citizen was armed and prepared to stop that incident. Those deaths are in no small part on you. Sleep well.

Ellison should avail himself of the mental health resources.
Curious how these shootings seem to have gone up since the Kenyan took office and how immediately after this latest shooting we have politicos like Mike Bloomberg the Despot, right away demanding a nationwide ban on guns. No press conference about the victims, no press conference about the mental patients waltzing around, but about banning guns. New York Mayor Michael Bloomburg wants to ban ALL guns, A gun is no different than Michael Bloomberg. They are both just tools. The root cause of our violent society are things like Hollywood, television and video games. Young people are bombarded with violent images 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The sick mind absorbs this until they hit a saturation point, and then they lash out at society. Mr. Bloomberg should put more effort into cleaning up Hollywood, tv and video games if he’s truly concerned about the problem.
And lets not forget the constant murder of unborn babies through government assisted abortions.
America started downhill when we kicked God out of our schools, our families, and our life. Now we live in a free society where anything goes. Most young people now days have no respect for themselves, their family or anything!
