Got scared last night because my wife came home from work and said that maybe we (Americans) should start looking at some gun control legislation.

This shooting spooked her in a brand new way.

This is a southern bell who is pro-gun, pro-hunting, and pro-self defense in all of its forms. She’d be cool if I brought home claymores.

We had a great discussion and I convinced her that we should not surrender our Constitutional Rights because 0.01% of the population are certifiably insane and that any gun legislation at this point in our political reality would be un-wise, short-sighted, and probably dangerous.

What this incident shows is not that guns are too easy to get — it shows the horrible state of our mental health system in America at the private and public levels. THAT’s the real story here.

Me too, frankly. This is the one they've been waiting for.

She's not alone.

But I think we should be talking more about the illusory "benefit" - and real danger - of "gun free zones", and less about disarming the law abiding.

Maybe if we lived in a more sane / civilized, stabilized, less fearful and moral society we wouldn’t be here. Maybe if people were allowed to follow the teachings of God, dicipline their children without the fear of CPS being called for the smallet indiscretion or drones or the NSA spying on them, were able to put nativity scenes on the courthouse lawns or display the 10 Commandments without liberal / atheist condemnation,, and teach right from wrong in the classrooms we wouldn’t be at this insane juncture in our history. Which the government all had a hand in some way or another.

I think there's going to be a lot of people who now feel the same way as your wife.

I've previously posted that I wasn't too worried about Obama taking up gun control, that it wasn't worth the political capital he'd have to expend. Twenty dead kindergartners changes things. I now firmly believe that we'll see myriad new gun control laws coming down the pipe in response to yesterday's tragedy and there won't be a damn thing the NRA can do to stop it. Obama now has the political capital he needs and, most importantly, he'll have full support from those minority and female voters who returned him to the White House.

Come Christmas morning when Americans turn on their TVs and see images of grieving parents, unopened presents and little kid-sized coffins being lowered in to the ground, every minivan-driving soccer mom in the land is going to be screaming for Obama to do something.

Rather than gun control, they should stop the mind control our youth experience when they watch Hollywood trash, play violent video games, listen to vicious hate-filled music and consume mind-altering drugs.

I agree pretty much. I made some similar comments yesterday that almost all (I believe it actually is ALL) of these mass shootings have involved young men who were taking psychotropic drugs/medication.
But as I thought some more, there is a deeper rooted common thread to this problem. No it is not guns. Yes I believe the problem is greatly aggravated by the over prescription and/or poorly designed prescriptions of drugs that affect the brain. I believe, however, the real problem is an atheistic worldview that has been foisted upon our youth. The Columbine kids were darwinistic (survival of the fittest) atheists who targeted Christians in their school. Although the majority of these killers have leaned Left in their political positions (the Tucson shooter sought out Gifford because she was NOT leftist enough), the Norwegian shooter leaned Right regarding politics, but he was certainly an atheist regarding God and Christ. The Bible speaks about this mindset that afflicts a people - from Romans 1 where God will give a people up to their evil designs when they deny Him, to Psalm 9:17 where He says: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

We have an anti-God and anti-Christ culture. Politicians mock God's Word; they tell people that butchering babies to avoid a 'problem' is good policy that embraces 'freedom of choice'; the Media will celebrate Christmas as long as you keep Christ out of the equation...
We are reaping what we have sowed. It is not guns. If there is no repentance it will only get worse. The Nation will be turned into hell...

To: Noamie; All

THE WEAPON WAS MENTAL ILLNESS.

repeat repeat repeat evywhere until it sinks in.

the GUN_CONTROL PATROL - from the Pres. on down - hit the airwaves while those little bodies in Connecticut were still in the school!(”Never let a crisis go to waste” on steroids)

using the horrific deaths of these little ones for their own agenda. Inhuman.

How about MENTAL HEALTH control? These tragedies started after the mental health hospitals closed and put the mentally sick loose on the public - and treatment of choice is Prozac, etc, - these shooters have almost 100% been on Prozac and related drugs, which have a PROVEN side effect of suicide and violence.!

Yet none of these sleazy politicians - or the media - mention we need more control and treatment over the mentally ill - and who triggered turning the mentally ill loose on the public?

Pres. Jimmy Carter. - which is another reason it’s never mentioned. If these mental cases can’t get a gun, they use other means - like pipe bombs... It’s not the guns. I remember when the mental hospitals were closed - and mentally sick couldn’t be committed without THEIR permission! That’s like saying the drunk driver can’t be arrested without their permission.

post this link everywhere and anywhere you can. Email everyone. Challenge all media - including conservative to point out that is it MENTAL ILLNESS, not guns. Cite all the cases like this - all mentally ill and on medication proven to incite sucide and violence. -

MENTAL ILLNESS, DANGEROUS LEGAL DRUGS AND NO TREATMENT FOR THE PERPS OR PROTECTION OF THE PUBLIC.

- There are not many people today who know or remember why the mentally ill not only don’t get the treatment THEY need, but who explode with such violence on the Innocent.

May I respectfully suggest you remind your wife that each teacher should be trained and equipped to protect their students.

Any teacher who is unable or unwilling to protect their students should find another line of work.

Any parent who has a school where teachers can not or will not protect their students should consider alternatives.
