Police doing a late-night probation check get wrong address, go to home of Maine militia head ...

BELMONT, Maine — Mack Page was sound asleep in his bed at 11 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, when he was startled awake by the frantic barking of his black Labrador.

“What have I got now?” the 63-year-old commander of the Maine Militia remembers wondering. “A raccoon? A coyote?”

But it was none of those things. Instead, Page’s dark residence on a quiet Belmont road suddenly was lit up by men outside his windows carrying flashlights. He lives alone, he’s not in the best of health and he was scared.

“They called, ‘State police! Come out with your hands up!’” he said earlier this week. “I don’t know if I got paranoid or just angry, but I challenged them. ‘Who the hell are you?’ Am I going to get tazed? Am I going to get shot by somebody?’”

I stand corrected, I’m not over the official age. Even better.

So, both you & Mr. Page...*knew* someone downtown to *clear up* the mistake. Howzbout those of us who don’t have someone at headquarters to vouch for us?

I clicked around these sites...and it looks like they try to be politically correct....at every step.

I’m more curious about *how* the cops ended up on this wild goose chase.

**troopers were acting on a citizen’s tip about a possible probation violation concerning a person believed to live on that road.**

WTH?

Friend on the force told me once that when things get slow and beds empty in jail the police troops do sweeps of probationers because most are young and will be in violation one way or another (smoking, alcohol present on property, some illegal substance in house, stolen property, underage females..., registration expired...on and on doing the bogus things young people do) Probation expectations are so stringent that they always can be brought in.

We have become a totalitarian police state.

I still remember Hamlet from my German class:

Supposing other militia members decided to get into the act and anonymously arrange to have a swarm of cops do a midnight raid on a house at one end of town and then they simultaneously cause a big ol’ ruckus at the other end of town.

Separate but related: Some cops are good, some cops are bad, but almost every cop feels like they’re above the law because they are the law. Protect and serve is no longer what they’re about.

You could always host a donut and coffee party at your house for the po-leece. Get to know the local crew a bit.

Being a connoisseur of fine confectioneries, I could not bring myself to touch mass produced toroidals.

How utterly undignified.

Yep.

I’ve noticed a trend that has become quite solid in the last three years - LEO’s having a warrant or “probable cause” for action type of call showing up that the wrong address and using armed force.

And sometimes, I’m not talking about “they got the house next door” type of mistakes. I’m talking about “they’re on the WRONG STREET” type of screw-up - which calls into question their competence or literacy. In one case I can remember, the warrant was for a house a block away. Kinda hard to place that mistake into the “we rolled up on the wrong house because we didn’t see any address numbers on the mailbox” sort of thing.

As always, sovereign immunity protects these highly compensated civil servants from any accountability.

"I’ve noticed a trend that has become quite solid in the last three years "

Not sure what country you have been living in, but there has been a SWAT terror tsunami in this country for the past 20-years.

Started as a trickle in 1970 with the GOP's RICO act that gushed into the 90's. Then Islam, on 9-11, arranged to have military equipment handed out to every podunk LEO outfit in the Nation by Bush's terror-supporting DHS.

Janet was driven insane by jealousy...Just like klintoon lamented that he didn't get the great opportunity that Bush got, so Janet probably dreamed of the thousands of other children she could have toasted...

Oh, I agree with you.

I’m talking about regular Barney Fife’s showing up at the wrong address and (in some cases) then calling in SWAT. The number of times that cops seem to be initiating no-knock or regular warrant service and blundering their way into a dwelling where they don’t have the correct address is on the upswing.

If they can’t serve the warrant at the correct address, they should lose any sovereign immunity they have.

Ah, I can’t beat world’s best, I can boast about America’s best; Keidrowski’s.

“Kiedrowski’s Bakery in Amherst was voted the Best Bakery in America in a contest held by Baking Buyer Magazine.”-from ClevelandBrowns.com

I have to leave district to get them. Worth the risk though.
