You are just presenting quotes, and not real life situations, where quotes and ideology will be quickly forgotten when an individual threatens one's life, or that of a loved one. There's nothing like fear to raise one's adrenaline level and cause him/her to react in ways that they never imagined they would or could. People may take political postures that they wish for people to hear, but, what they do in the real world and in desperate situations will be completely different.

It's a lot easier to make that kind of statement after the event has been over for a while.

I'll bet if they had guns on them while the shootings were transpiring, that they would have used them.
