Sanitizing Adam Lanza
American Thinker ^ | December 16, 2012 | J.R. Dunn

Amid all its political correctness and ideological distortion, one thing often overlooked concerning the mainstream media is its essential strangeness, its near-total separation from any behavior, attitudes, or ideas that could be defined as "normal".

We find yet another example of this in the treatment of Adam Lanza, the Newtown CT shooter. A photograph released by the wire services reveals a delicate-looking kid with a shy smile and a goofy haircut.

The standard reader's reaction would amount to a shake of the head and a "what could have made such a nice kid do it?"

But there's another photo extant as well, one that has not seen such wide circulation:

Apart from the fact that it would scare the hell out of Hannibal Lector, this shot leaves no doubt as to "why he did it": because he was as crazy as they come.

This stratagem involving photographs immediately calls to mind the Zimmerman shooting, when the media released, and heavily played up, photos showing Trayvon Martin as a sweet-faced twelve-year-old rather than the hulking seventeen-year-old tough faced by George Zimmerman.

Given the leftist slant of the media, using that shot made sense. The media circus surrounding that shooting was intended to create a racial incident, to keep the pot boiling in light of the upcoming electoral campaign. That photo did its work well -- most people still picture Trayvon Martin as the innocent twelve-year-old as opposed to the drug-addled teen he became.

But what are we to make of this Lanza photo?

So true. We had a horrible double murder several years ago here in Knoxville where the perps and victims were all white. I was called for jury duty involving the shooter. His girl friend had become disenchanted with her parents and persuaded him to murder both of them, using her father’s gun, which she had provided to the shooter.

I was totally shocked when I first shaw the shooter. He was just about age 20 and skinny like Lanza. The most striking, horrifying thing was his eyes. They were deeply sunken and surrounded by huge, black circles. He couldn’t have looked worse if he’d been deliberately made up like a crazed mass murderer in a horror flick. His countenace was that of a subhuman who’d had his soul sucked out of him and replaced by pure evil. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a death penalty case and I was preemptorily challenged. Fortunately, he was found guilty and received life without parole.

“I have a nephew with Asperger’s Syndrome...the same diagnosis this kid is supposed to have had.In the interest of privacy all I’ll say about him is that he’s (very) smart,(very) strange and at least somewhat scary.”

Hopefully his parents don’t keep an arsenal nearby.

Particularly ironic, seeing as how Lovecraft once wrote:

“The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and reveling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom.” -The Call of Cthulhu

When I first saw that pic of Lanza a day or so ago, my first thought was, ‘He sort of looks like Lovecraft’.

The pic in that video doesn’t look anything like the two pics on this thread. Which I’m sure you can see.

The picture of the shooter on the FBI site on this video does not look at all like the Adam Lanza who is in the video posted.

They keep talking about his “high powered assault rifle,” which was a .223, best used for hunting varmints.

stupid article in my opinion.. there is nothing scary or creepy about the second photo... he is older in the second photo, so there is no child-like sweetness... it looks like a dorky school picture—and come on, those hardly turn out nicely for any body... it’s a bad photo, but it reveals nothing... other than that the photographer took a bad shot...

Amazing isn't it? There are so many FReepers capable of psychoanalyzing someone from a single picture. Perhaps the DOJ should hire them to go through high school yearbooks to pick out all the crazy kids and have them arrested and institutionalized for our safety.

The mother had to choose between Adam and her life which includes her hobbies.

She tried to have both.

We all lost.

If you look at the pictures of his mother and father, he clearly resembles them both. The top half of his face looks like his father, and he has his mother’s lips.

I’m a little confused about the older kid, though. He doesn’t really look like his brother. I saw reports that his parents divorced in 2008 or 2009 after about 18 years of marriage, but Ryan would have been 21. I wonder what the story is on him.

“..Always the crazy eyes. Vacant souless staring right through a person like they aren’t even there...”

Like a shark’s eyes as described by the skipper in the movie, “JAWS”.

Bright kids mature too fast. They don’t have the life experience to deal with the emotions and all the information they’re taking in. They become confused. Sometimes they become aggressive. Having the Dad there to help the kid work through his problems doesn’t guarantee success with the kid, but the odds are sure much better.

It must be the guns fault.

&&
Yep. From the piece:

Or is it yet another case of ideological subterfuge, an effort to deny the shooter any form of agency, instead transferring responsibility to the demonic weapon he used?

Sorry, I don't buy it. The writer's thesis that is.

No question the MSM conspired to foist the cute l'll Trayvon photo on the public. We know what their agenda was was that.

But in this case? I doubt it. There's no advantage to the Left in favoring a photo of a younger, less scary-looking Adam Lanza.

I think the younger photo was the first to come out, simply because it was the first one available. Nothing more complicated than that. (IOW, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.)
