Magnitude 10 temblor could happen: study

Kyodo

It is theoretically possible that the world could see a quake with a magnitude of around 10, a researcher at Tohoku University told the government's Coordinating Committee for Earthquake Prediction, Japan.

/snip

A magnitude 10 quake would likely cause ground motions for up to an hour, with tsunami hitting while the shaking was still going on, according to the research. Tsunami would continue for several days, causing damage to several Pacific Rim nations.

ground motions for up to an hour

Tsunami would continue for several days

So a man would be puked to death in Tokyo due to too much ground shaking, and then washed ashore at Santa Monica Beach riding a 200 ft tsunami? By the way, the man has a future as a disaster movie consultant in Hollywood.

How terrible that would be!

Would there be signs in advance that a quake that big was going to happen? I know that average-size quakes can happen without warning, but don’t the mega-big ones show signs of increasing activity?

There’s gotta be a man-made global warming tie-in somewhere. How could so much bad stuff be predicted without gas guzzlers being at fault?

Why have they not made earthquakes illegal..? At least some form of earthquake control...?

We can be sure that would end them —just change the laws.
