without intending to seem unduly callous, news guys love reporting on themselves. a murdered reporter is 100 times the story that a murdered ambassador could ever be.

And why should I care when a mouthpiece for tyranny goes missing?

Because he is an American lost in another country. It used to be that everyone would get behind the missing person....I guess not anymore. Our country is on life support.

Would be great if that were the case but suspect that all the remaining ones would say is, “Sorry about him, sure glad it wasn’t me” and go on about their business.

Mr Engel took a job as a foreign correspondent at NBC of his own free will. Similarly, no one twisted his arm to cover the fighting in Syria. Having said all that, if you want to search for culpability, look no further than the assignment editors, senior producers and NBC News executives, along with Brian Williams himself. All of the networks have been competing to se who can get someone deep into Syria, so they can get an exclusive of Assad’s head on a pole, or his jet flying off into exile.

Having worked in the salt mines of broadcasting, I’m guessing the phone conference went something like this: Engel, touting his years of experience in the Middle East, probably announced he had trusted connections who could get him into the heart of the fighting. Someone in New York probably asked a perfunctory question about safety, and Engel assured them that his contacts could be trusted. After that, Engel had the green light and NBC had covered its corporate butt.

Worth remembering that Engel, in all likelihood, was not traveling alone. Chief foreign correspondents usually have a crew consisting of a producer, videographer, a sound man, a translator (although Engel is fluent in Arabic) and even their own security personnel.

Guessing Engel was set up, either by Al Qaida factions with the rebels, or the Assad regime. Hate to say it, but Mr. Engel is likely a dead man, killed to send a message to the western media to stay out of Syria. I’ll pray for his survival (along with his colleagues), but the odds of their safe return are very, very slim.

If Engel was circumcised he may as well eat the cyanide pill now.

Oh get off your high horse. US_military Rules is right. Reporters and members of the so-called MSM are propaganda agents for statism. NBC has already given his disappearance more coverage than they’ve given to Barry Bengazi’s coverup of the Benghazi massacre. That says all I need to know.

Where’s little treason man, Brian William and that funny guy Jamie Foxx when you need them. Brian should cover a Jammie Foxx movie set in Syria where Obama’s moderate pals can have at ‘em.

Are you kidding??? These guys go balls to the wall to put America in the worst possible light at every opportunity. They are agents of statism amd the enemies of liberty. He was there on his own accord. He knew what the risks were, and if he didn't he's even dumber than his profession would lead one tro believe. Let NBC worry about getting him out. I would certainly not support 1 service an or woman spending 1 second is harm's way trying to save his sorry ass.

If the koranimals have him they will most likely want to see him “lean forward” a few times before they do too much damage.

He is an enemy to this country. Engel was there to push for the overthrow of the Syrian ruler by force with the aid , or by the US military. He was justifying and furthering Obama’s support of the MB.

Karma is a bitch.

The report says NBC’s Turkish correspondent, Aziz Akyavas, went missing at the same time.
