Cerberus to sell gunmaker Freedom Group after U.S. school shooting
reuters.com ^ | December 18, 2012

U.S. private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management said on Tuesday it will immediately begin selling its investment in gunmaker Freedom Group in light of last week's school shooting in Connecticut.

Cerberus acquired Bushmaster in 2006 and later merged it with other gun companies to create Freedom Group, which reported net sales of $677.3 million for the nine months ending September 2012, up from $564.6 million in the same period a year ago.

Bushmaster is the manufacturer of the AR 15 rifle used by the shooter in the Newtown killings that claimed 27 lives, including 20 school children.

"We do not believe that Freedom Group or any single company or individual can prevent senseless violence or the illegal use or procurement of firearms and ammunition," Cerberus said in a statement.

Thanks for the links. The reports were conflicting weren’t they.

When I watched the Medical Examiner’s press conference - he said out of the bodies that he did the autopsies on, the long rifle was used - he also said he only did handled a portion of the autopsies.

I've become accustomed to never being informed of the actual motive and given a vague or conflicting sequence of events when notorious mass murders occur. But under the regime we don't even get basic facts.

I's been four days since the shooting. By now CSI has recovered and cataloged every particle of evidence; every gun, round, spent case, glass shard and blood drop has been cataloged and photographed. Someone knows exactly how many weapons, what kind they were and how many rounds were fired from each one. The perp is dead, so there is no need to worry about contaminating the jury. The only reason that there is any uncertainty of facts is because someone is spinning them for effect.

And what happened to the bullet-proof vest? On Friday all outlets were reporting that the shooter had a bullet-proof vest. And what of the second man in black that was arrested in the woods behind the school, who said to the reporters as he was led away in cuffs "I didn't do it." Who was that? Reporters supposedly saw this happen and even got a quote. Was this story just made up, like the vest? What else about this story is made up?

I didn’t particularly care for it either.

The guy is the state medical examiner, so it’s not as I stated earlier, him being from a small berg.

He was a quirky guy. I suppose if you spend a few decades doing that line of work, you get a pass being a little quirky.

BTW: Thanks for the mention of the article addressing it as a shotgun.

Did you mean Dr. (do I use it or don’t I) H Wayne Carver II? LOL

He is the state’s chief medical examiner. It’s not like I thought, he might be a small berg guy.

I think you guys are probably right. It bothers me to say that, because I was hoping this would remain as first reported, and the AR-15 would become more of a non-issue.

Now we have to confront that on point.

You posted a CNN news report that's four days old. Four days ago, they were still claiming it was the shooter's brother who was responsible for the killing.

Sunday, CNN was reporting that the Bushmaster was inside the classroom with Lanza.

CNN - Sunday

Monday, CNN was reporting the Bushmaster inside the classroom with Lanza.

CNN - Monday

You stated unequivocally that "no reports to date place the AR-15 inside the school. NONE!"

There are two reports above, from the same news source you used. Both state the Bushmaster was in the classroom with Lanza's body. Pick another news agency and I'll find you another, current report that the AR-15 was in the school.

It may interest you and a few others to know that I went on a thread yesterday afternoon and did an all post, asking if the story had morphed on the weapons involved. I didn’t get any responses out of people who made about 50 previous posts on the thread. I took that to mean that the story probably hadn’t morphed. It had..

Does anyone know if they’ve yet reported the total number and type of guns the registered to the mother?

Some of the folks here are making a pretty good case for the AR-15 having been used in the classroom. The medical examiner says it was.

I do agree with your take on the situation, but early information is sometimes flakey. I don’t know what else to say.

I’m rather cynical too, but there are times when things just naturally get reported wrong because everyone is in a feeding frenzy, and some guy who thinks he has the right information actually doesn’t.

Snarling Arlen, and Jerald Ford who stated he came up with that at one point not too many years ago.

I’ve always had questions about the JFK assassination.

He did seven. I think at one point he said the long rifle was used for all the killings. I may be wrong about that part.

I hate to say it FRiends but I believe the .223 was the primary weapon. The shotgun was in the trunk.

Main gun in Newtown also used in D.C. sniper shootings
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/17/bushmaster-assault-rifle-in-newtown-shootings/1772825/
In the school shooting, Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver said all 26 victims were hit multiple times, suffering “devastating” wounds, all apparently traced to the rifle.

http://articles.latimes.com/2012/dec/16/news/la-nn-connecticut-school-shooting-assault-rifle-20121216
Lanza, 20, fired a Bushmaster .223 semiautomatic rifle to kill many of the 20 children and six adults at the school Friday, Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said. He used a Glock 10-millimeter handgun to shoot himself in the head. He also carried at Sig Sauer pistol. A shotgun, the type of which was not identified, was found in the trunk of Lanza’s car outside the school.

“The Bushmaster was used in the school, in its entirety, and [a] handgun was used to take his own life,” Vance said.

Yes, he said he did seven of the autopsies and also said he didn’t know about the other bodies - shouldn’t he know being the Cheif Medical Examiner and giving the press conference ?

You are right, he did refuse to name the caliber of the slugs.

He also kept looking over to his right on those questions as if seeking approval.

There is no truth in the press today so we are left with 3 articles saying yes and three saying no. I trust no one until we know the truth and like Benghazi... we may never know the truth.

Maybe I’m being picky here, but he was almost flippant at times. He was being jovial to a degree and I found that strange.

You couldn’t have gotten me to make a single attempt at humor.

I agree totally, the medical examiner was acting bizarre, but what do you expect after 30 years of working on dead bodies.
