“if you think that’s what Russian women look like, you’re about 2 centuries out.”

A friend of mine had a Ukrainian mail-order bride. It was absolutely creepy how detached he was as he talked about the approaching end of her 5-year indentured servant skit; she would be legal here, and they both were moving on to other people. He said it was great while it lasted, but it was understood that this was how it would work out...

There's a lot of bad marriage stories with Eastern European women; most of course are just looking for an easy Green card.

Someone should just tell them that in the U.S., illegals have more rights then Americans and not to worry about little things like immigration laws. They can always get a job dancing in some club in L.A. while they look for a guy they actually might want to marry...

But seriously, I know a Russian emigre who married an American guy and she is not just beautiful, but speaks perfect unaccented English after 15 years in the U.S., raises her kids to be polite but competitive, augmented her Russian education with a degree here in the U.S., and is generally one of the best people we have in our community.

There are some success stories. But the real point is that far from the stereotype of the Babuschka in Boots, modern Russian women are incredibly good looking and dress to flaunt it. The Communists killed as much of that attitude as they could (Socialists always hate flamboyant people having fun), but once Communism collapsed, the Russian girls headed for the dress shop...and the beauty shop...the perfume store...

They're like that. Unapolegetically so.
