SCHERTZ, Texas -- LoneStar Handgun is offering its concealed handgun license course to all teachers free of charge.

Josh Felker, who owns the gun shop off I-35 in Schertz, near San Antonio, said his phone has been ringing nonstop since the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

"I don't advocate anybody having to carry a gun; it's having that option," Felker said. "When evil does confront me, I have a fighting chance versus being defenseless."

Right now, school districts in Texas can implement policies which would allow teachers to carry guns on campus. But so far, only one school district has done so.

Great!

I hope a lot of teachers take advantage of the classes.

Unfortunately it is too late to help the Sandy Hook victims. But it will help prevent such massacres in the future.

You can not know, when you leave your house in the morning, whether or not evil will confront you that day.

The only way to always be prepared is to always be prepared.

Texas law MUST be changed immediately to allow teachers/administrators with appropriate training to conceal carry at school.

Texas has taken the first step and I applaud them.
However, I'm afraid there are too many liberal teachers who want to be protected but are not willing to step up and protect themselves. Guess gun training and a CCL could be part of their requirements before getting a teachers license.

I have one granddaughter that IS a teacher and another one working toward that same status. Both of them know how to shoot quiet well and both already have their CCL. One is getting a very nice handgun as a Christmas present.

I think it’s time to look into relocating away from Calipornia. San Antonio is looking quite interesting.

The town where I live north of Fort Worth is offering free concealed carry classes for all residents, and has done this periodically for some time. Police chief teaches the class. You still have to pay the state for the license, but the class itself is free. Kinda nice. Chief thinks that having armed citizens makes his job easier.
