I just unsubscribed from Dick’s sporting goods email list and told them it was because their cave in on the 2nd amendment.
The good news is there's already a growing consensus for us to build from. A majority of Americans support banning the sale of military-style assault weapons. A majority of Americans support banning the sale of high-capacity ammunition clips. A majority of Americans support laws requiring background checks before all gun purchases so that criminals can't take advantage of legal loopholes to buy a gun from somebody who won't take the responsibility of doing a background check at all.
I urge the new Congress to hold votes on these measures next year in a timely manner.
Obama relies on the majority now, but hes happy to discard it when it doesnt agree with him. As to the merits of his proposed legislation:
Obama also proposed confirming a new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Thats his fault. His 2012 pick was so bad that even the Democrat-controlled Senate would approve him.
Then Obama got into his rhetorical manipulation. Heres Obama, sounding no different than any normal National Rifle Association member:
Obviously, across the country there are regional differences. There are differences between how people feel in urban areas and rural areas. And the fact is, the vast majority of gun owners in America are responsible. They buy their guns legally and they use them safely, whether for hunting or sports shooting, collection or protection.
But you know what? I am also betting that the majority - the vast majority of responsible law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say that we should be able to keep an irresponsible, law-breaking few from buying a weapon of war.
Actually, any rational person would want to be able to keep a weapon any weapon, including a pea-shooter out of the hands of an irresponsible, law-breaking few. The question, of course, is how to do that without infringing the rights of the law-abiding. Obama has yet to make any proposal along those lines.
Obama concluded:
If he we work harder to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people there would be fewer atrocities like the ones in Newtown or any of the lesser known tragedies that visit small towns and big cities all across America every day.
Connecticut has worked hard at it with law after law. Sandy Hook happened. Chicago has more gun laws than virtually anywhere else in the nation and every weekend is a mini-Sandy Hook, ignored by the media. We want to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. But the liberals idea of action hasnt achieved that.
Obama came back to the notion of trying. Its just another example of his intent being good, without regard for the actual consequences of the legislation hes proposing. Here are a few pieces of legislation that would achieve something:
Obama has proposed none of these. He just wants to try what we tried before Columbine, and what has failed everywhere from California to Chicago, all the while ignoring the legal and societal measures truly necessary to stop the next Sandy Hook.
If they fly according to routine Obama will pull a smoke and mirrors diversion, get everyone’s attention and fury centered on one thing while he comes up in the rear.
He will “try” to pen an Executive Order but at the same time will get a new taxation plan initiated, a 1000% tax on all designated weapons they decide up and also magazines.
You can still get that $750 AR but you will need a federally approve time limited stamp that will cost you $5,000. He will claim its the answer to the fiscal cliff, of which he created so as to use this plan.
I almost feel sorry for the gun factory workers right now.
The man who gave guns to the Mexican drug cartels and the muslim terrorists wants to take guns away from innocent Americans.
The Joker needs to ‘splain how the gun laws in Chicago work out to make Chicago the City of Peace.
I have a proposed gun control measure that I hope we can all get behind.
“Aside from the Department of Defense, no agency, department or other subdivision of the federal government of the United States shall purchase, possess, issue, keep, store, distribute or otherwise use any weapon, of any class, that is not freely available to the individual citizens of the United States.”

Here's why...
Articles that explain how modern liberals suffer from a mental disorder.
Bttt!
That Kenyan a-hole makes me REALLY angry.
The fact of the matter is that nobody can show me even a single instance of a school shooting in the 1800’s when:
-there were no background checks
-there were no age limits
-there were no waiting periods
-there were no arbitrary gun restrictions
-guns were much more easily accessible to kids
-gun safes practically did not even exist
-gun locks did not exist at all
-lever action guns in skilled hands can fire almost as fast as a semi auto AR
With all of this, still nobody can show me even a single instance of a school shooting during this time.
It’s the culture stupid......it ain’t the guns.
And the Second Amendment was never about duck hunting or target practice; it was about stopping tyranny from taking hold. The Founding Fathers were very clear on this and this can seen in their opinions (”it is the duty of every man to at all times be armed”-Thomas Jefferson) The Second Amendment was meant to be a checks and balances, so to speak, similar to the three branches of government.
It was precisely designed to act as a Sword of Damacles, which hangs over the head over every single politician.
“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”-Thomas Jefferson
