Boehner’s Burden (Let the Arm Twisting Begin)
National Review ^

Posted on 12/19/2012 3:08:13 PM PST by Windy City Conservative

The House will take up “Plan B,” Speaker Boehner’s fiscal-cliff proposal, on Thursday. It’s a critical vote for Republicans. If it passes, the Senate and the White House will be pressured to either support it or amend it, especially if the ongoing debt talks continue to stall. If it fails, Boehner’s negotiating power will be diminished. If he can’t sway his caucus on a simple measure to extend tax rates for those making less than $1 million, Democrats doubt he’d be able to whip a broader deal.

Behind the scenes, Boehner is hustling to woo his increasingly uneasy colleagues. House leaders are huddling with backbenchers, assuaging their concerns and urging them to support the rule. Politico reported on Wednesday that due to the close whip count, Boehner is considering adding spending cuts to the Plan B package, in the hopes of winning more conservative support.

This article also calls Grover Norquist and Paul Ryan "conservative leaders". Paul Ryan isn't a leader, he is a Boehner follower. If all you do is vote the way House leadership wants you to vote, that doesn't make you a leader.

Ho-hum... I've voted for my last GOP liberal many years ago. They are headed toward Whig status quickly.

Why the HELL are these jerks fighting over how much to raise taxes and cut social security, with not a single word about cutting wasteful spending?

The only spending they can figure out how to cut is social security and medicare?

I cannot believe conservatives will vote for any Tax increase. Period.
Why not throw in gun control, amnesty and more free Obama phones,
as well? If that is not enough for Obama, why not open the flood gates
on the border.
Since Harry Reid has said this Plan B is DOA.
I am guessing this is a test vote to see who Bonehead and Cantor
can threaten before the real vote. Any conservative who votes for this
charade should be primaried

Let the meataxe fall, when sequestration sets in.

ANYTHING the House of Representatives may vote out, shall surely expire in the Senate.

Sometimes, gridlock is your friend....

The country has become virtually ungovernable. Secession looks more and more like a viable alternative.

If only to keep the lights on and the trains running.

Because they are pi$$ing down our backs and telling us it is raining. And 47% of the populace believe them and another 5% are too wishy washy to make up their own minds.

There is one political fact that can’t be stated enough. In the current circumstances, this Plan B is the “best” GOP can do. Any other resolution to the so called Cliff will be worse than this plan for the GOP and conservatives.

Sure, all of us can wish the politics were different. But, they are not. Period.

I don't agree with Plan B however, how much you wanna bet the RAT's walk out en masse right toward the TV cameras right before the vote?

And the MSM will triumph this action with words of praise and courage, standing up to those incalcitrant Republicans - with no word mentioned of the compromise that is Plan B.

My point is - we know what the outcome of the media coverage will be of this so, why compromise? And - they (Pubbies) need to learn how to speak above the MSM.

Everybody brags about how Clinton balanced the budget.

Everybody wants to go back to the Clinton tax rates.

Why then don't we go back to the Clinton budget?

Okay so maybe we have a larger population now. So we would then received more tax revenues, therefore we could increase the current budget by that same amount.

We have a larger population, but we have a larger percent of free loaders,
as well.

Please take a look at total spending.
Though, in political terms, it hurts Republicans when we act like adults on spending matters -—
We should BE THE ADULTS!

This country can not afford to keep the promises it has made.

We just can't.

If you are now over 70 and you live to age 80, you will get a better financial return on Social Security and on Medicare than ANYONE now age 55 or younger.

The country is BANKRUPT!

I do not like it that Obamacare is taking budget money needed for other programs, and YES we need to make that case.

However? We would be broke today, even if McCain had defeated Obama the first time around, as people are living longer and longer and Medicare and Social Security were designed under entirely different life expectances and demographics.

You must have a very short memory. The reason for this fiscal cliff is
the deal Bonehead cut Two years ago, regarding the debt ceiling. U know
the deal the GOP voted for two years ago. If the GOP doesn’t like the
outcome of that deal now, why did they like it then, when THEY voted
for it.

Well they are going to have to get off of our back. We can't afford them. Obama has greatly expanded welfare and unemployment. We need to make it where it where working is more profitable than welfare. They maybe freeloaders but they are not stupid.

We are already passed the point of no return, in that respect.
The Takers represent half our population. It’s finished on a national
level. Eventually we will lose conservative states as well.

Factually incorrect. Bush tax cuts were extended for all for 2 years after 2010 elections to punt until 2012 election. Sequester is the debt ceiling related deal, and has nothing to do with Plan B vote.
