West Virginians protest Manchin’s gun rights betrayal

West Virginians plan to rally in front of the Charleston, W.V. offices of Sen. Joseph Manchin III (D-W.Va.) Dec. 22 in protest of his abandonment of the pro-gun rights positions he campaigned on in 2010 and 2012.

“We are expecting 300 to 1,000 people to attend — it will be bigger than any of the events we held during the campaign,” said Keith T. Morgan, the president of the Charleston-based West Virginia Citizens Defense League.

“We have received hundreds of RSVP’s through our Facebook page and tons of emails,” he said. “It is front page news here and we’ve gotten a lot of statewide coverage.”

Manchin sells himself as a pro-gun rights conservative, but his deeds do not match his words, he said.

“During his term as governor here, through the party leadership, he systematically and routinely made sure that any pro-gun bills or substance died in committee,” he said.

The anti-freedom protest against the NRA drew almost 200 people in Washington, DC, with a population of 617,000. Charleston, WV has a population of 51,000, about 1/12 that of DC. It will be interesting to see what the size of the crowd is.

The good people of WV screwed up by voting him in. Anyone with any sense could’ve seen this guy and his positions coming out. People never learn, there’s no such thing as a “conservative democrat” today.

Everyone should read this gem by Karl Denninger on the subject of Obama (and many others, like Manchin) being complete hypocrites on the gun ssue: http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=215107

Please also pass it on to other threads and your email lists. This kind of brutal logic MUST become part of the “national conversation on guns” that the gun-ban crowd wants to have.

These people allowed themselves to be duped twice now by Manchin. He safely re-elected for a full term now. They can take their revenge in two years by throwing Rockefeller out on his ass, unless he retires, which is likely. Capito seems to be a wishy washy moderate like Scott Brown, who just changed his tune as the winds changed (ran as conservative in 2010, independent in 2012, and probably liberal in his quest to be elected to Kerry’s seat) so the conservatives of WV should find somebody else.

I guess the protesters really are stupid.
First, they continue to vote for Democrats.
Second, they get upset when Democrats lie or betray them.
Damn they sound like Republican voters.

The main difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans will often screw their constituents and Democrats always will. It is just a matter of timing.

The great irony is that when he first ran for the Senate he was behind in the race as the election approached. He then did an ad where he shot at a flyer posted to a tree, showing he was “one of them,” and went on to win the election.

I guess the protesters really are stupid.

You can guess anything you like.

First, they continue to vote for Democrats.

What makes you think the protesters voted for any democRat?

Second, they get upset when Democrats lie or betray them.

So ... do you like it when democRats lie and betray Americans?

Damn they sound like Republican voters.

They probably are ... not that it does much good. Politicians from both parties seem to be primarily would-be dictators or spineless cowards.

Capito seems to be a wishy washy moderate like Scott Brown,

Capito has been pretty solid on opposing tax increases and supporting some semblance of fiscal restraint. Beyond that, I don't really trust her.

Anyone with any sense could’ve seen this guy and his positions coming out.

Many of us did ... not enough, though. Some national 'associations' and 'commttees' were completely duped by Manchin's machinations, and gave him top ratings, and endorsed him.

It was the equivalent of pissing on our legs, and telling us it's raining.

"Capito - - - . Beyond that, I don't really trust her."

Capito would do good to break 40% of the vote in a state wide election against Rockefeller. Definitely a Rino and still carries some guilt by association from her father's (former governor Arch Moore) downfall.

I believe the only reason she announced is that she is being preemptive in case Rocky does retire. Rocky and Manchin will retain office as long as they live and desire to hold office. WV is funny that way, they love their federal bacon.

Recall?

Very unlikely. To my knowledge it has never been successful for Congress or Senate by action of a state.

The only action that might produce fruit is to search for a legal r eason to bring charges against him. If there is a skeleton in his closed that might be leveraged to force him to resign. I doubt that would work either.

As a former 22 year resident of WV with plenty of relatives still there, I agree. I have too many WV family members who still cannot see what is happening right before their eyes. Unfortunately, WV is not alone in the regard.
