Bikers seem to have thwarted attempts by the Westboro Baptist Church to protest the funeral of Newtown, Conn., shooting victim Principal Dawn Hochsprung.
The vocal right-wing Christian group, whose website is godhatesfags.com, produced a video called "God Sent the Shooter," and has blamed the massacre on gay marriage. It put Hochsprung's funeral on its online "picket schedule."
But there was no sign of the church group, as local newspaper the Newtown Patch live-blogged throughout the day with updates, and reported that people had arrived from as far away as Massachusetts to protect the mourners -- just in case.
Bikers from New York formed a formidable-looking wall of motorcyles.
Late in the day the Patch wrote: "Applause erupted in the crowd ... as it was announced that members of the Westboro Baptist Church were not coming to protest at the wake."
As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly a quarter million people had signed a WhiteHouse.gov petition -- created Dec. 14, the day of the Sandy Hook shooting -- to "legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group."
We in the ALR salute you and will stand with you ANYTIME
Someone posted a couple of years ago about the background of these supposed “Baptists.” The leader of it and some of the women were big lefties and as I recall, one of them was even with Code Pink at one point (another group that used staged events to provoke). Look at the way some of the women are dressed: a parody of what they apparently think the hillbilly Baptist Bibles-and-guns crowd of their fantasies looks like.
I think you’d probably find that they actually are leftists and this is basically a sort of false flag operation. Because the Baptist structure is so loose, just about any group can call themselves a “Baptist church,” and there’s really no way of controlling it.
Right Wing Group?
BULL DROPPINGS!!!!!
LEFT WING GROUP posing as Christians..
Regardless of our feelings right wingers and Christians have RESPECT for those who have died and their survivors.
You do mean the actual sin of murder as commited by the shooter, don’t you?...not sin in general as commited by mankind, that would not make sense.
It’s because that idea is foolish. There are insane people in this world, the shooter is one.
That’s why the middle is the only logical, balanced position to take...
Dem Mudder Friking Bustards have my respect.
—— on the other hand, I bet if I sat down with them and had a beer or two, we would probably get along quite well - despite their rough exterior(s).
don’t know. I would not touch whitehouse.gov with a 10 foot pole. Probably end up on some watch list and on Obama’s fund raising mail list.
They are “slip and fall” Lawyers.
Yup.
And they know better than to provoke a slew of bikers.
It isn’t near as much fun to sue when your hands are in a cast and you can’t sign the complaint...
I applaud the bikers for their actions but the article is dishonest. The Westboro Baptist Church is not a "right-wing Christian Group". It was founded by and is headed by Fred Phelps. It is just Phelps and a few members of his family.
Phelps is a long time leftist trial lawyer and member of the Democrat Party. He sued individuals and companies for discrimination and got Democrat bureaucrats to help him. He ran for office as a Democrat. He is a committed leftist. He is not a Christian. His small group of family members is not a church. It is an organization that tries to disrupt funerals of deceased servicemen and provoke family members at their time of grief to create a possible lawsuit.
It claims to be anti-gay. That is a lie. Phelp’s small group NEVER attacks gay events or gay rights organizations. They only go after Christians with deceased family members at their funerals. They provoke and file lawsuits. They claim their right of freedom of speech and freedom of religion allows them to disrupt funerals and provoke grieving family members. The ACLU and other leftist groups strongly support Phelps and have filed lawsuits on his behalf.

One of their lawsuits went to the Supreme Court.
SPJNK.
I brought it up but no one was interested! I said:
Lets start informing said students that it is not just against the law to murder people - its a SIN as well!
Lets put the fear of God into them.
My money is on the latter.
This is something *everybody* should be very aware of, and never let pass:
Fred Phelps was always a registered democrat and ran for office as Democrat several times. And he and the rest of the ilk had a close, personal relationship with the Gore family. Pics of the Phelpses and Gores together are out there, but you don’t see them much.
I don’t think that works that well. I bet all the so-called religious persons, irregardless of their faith, that have commited murder throughout history, know that. You can’t put fear into someone that doesn’t care, and you can’t make people care.
Hooligan ping.
Many Americans and most young Americans believe that it is ignorant and foolish to consider the spiritual consequences of one's actions. They laugh and say that we should not fear the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Then they go back to doing whatever seems right in their own eyes.
It isn't surprising that blood flows in our streets.
Sin is at the root of ALL of the problems in the world. As far as this specific instance -- the shooter's sin, certainly. But I would lay the blame more squarely on kicking Jesus out of the school house, originally.
