Harry Reid: 'We Are Not Going to Do Anything'
weekly standard ^ | 12/20/12 | d halper

Senate majority leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, made his "fiscal cliff" position clear in a press conference today. "We are not going to do anything," said Reid.

Reid added, "We are not taking up anything they are working on over there."

The top Democrat in the Senate was explaining his inaction on the House plan, the proposal put forward by Republican John Boehner, the speaker of the House of Representatives. Boehner's plan is being referred to as 'Plan B.'

"Boehner described his Plan B as a fallback option to prevent a sweeping tax hike when tax cuts from the administration of President George W. Bush expire at the end of the year. Sources said the Boehner measure also would include extending the current estate tax and alternative minimum tax, two steps sought by Republicans," reports CNN.

The 'Plan B' option tracks closely to a proposal put forward by Democrats earlier this year.

But now Reid won't even allow the Senate to vote on Boehner's proposal.

In the past, Reid has indicated he'd be open to compromising. "We are willing to compromise," he said earlier this month, "but we also will not consign the middle class to higher tax bills while millionaires and billionaires avoid all the pain."

Now that Republicans have a serious proposal that would pass the House and would seem to meet the requirements Democrats previously insisted on, Reid won't permit a vote.

All the GOP needs to do is to use this quote in nauseum to demonstrate what the American people are really up against.

The libs want everyone's taxes raised.

Hope we have that on tape!

Then, all we’d have to do is find a Republican willing to BEAT THEM OVER THE HEAD WITH IT!

Bonehead should have the House pass an extension of the current Bush tax cuts and adjourn.

The dems want to go over the cliff.

They will turn around in Jan and pass a middle class tax cut and leave the successful people at the higher level and OB will tout himself as the savior of the middle class.

Spending cuts, you ask???????? ROTFLMAO!

Plan C
Plan D
Plan E

At the end of all of this, the media takeaway will be that the Democrats wanted to do business, and the Republican never put forth a proposal.

It’s all Kabuki theater.

Well, Hairy...Boehner now has a bill which raises taxes on the millionaires and billionaires only.

But you're STILL against it!

Bonehead should have the House pass an extension of the current Bush tax cuts and adjourn.

And adjourn until after New Years, so that Reid has a choice between passing that or going over the cliff.

The idea that he could amend the bill is apparently beyond him.

Of course, we all know what’s going on. The senate and the president are as one. The senate does not want the house to actually legislate. And even if it does, the senate will not act. The senate is acting as Obama’s shied. No bill will get to him because the senate will not pass one. It’s either what Obama wants or nothing.

Unfortuantely, Boehner hasn’t figured out yet that in reality, it’s what the House wants or nothing.

Seems like every year lately we are watching and waiting in the days up until Christmas to find out what abominable power grab is being cooked up in Washington D.C. I think Congress should go home before Thanksgiving and stay there until January. Please just save us the drama of 11th hour deals such as Obamacare, etc.

I’ve been for the House adjourning as well, but they’d have to recess. They can’t adjourn for more than three days without the senate’s permission. They can go home though and leave a few Virginia or Maryland reps running the House in pro forma session.

"We are not going to do anything," said Reid. Reid added, "We are not taking up anything they are working on over there."

Start airing COMMERCIALS OF THAT PUNK SAYING THAT...24/7 IT SHOULD BE ON TV, RADIO, INTERNET.

Saturate the damn media with every available commercial slot....and let Americans know: "YOUR TAXES ARE GOING UP BECAUSE OF OBAMA AND HIS FRIENDS IN THE SENATE!"
