It's a countdown until massive cuts hit Medicare providers. With only a few days left in the calendar year, providers are waiting with bated breath about the outcomes of fiscal cliff talks on Capitol Hill.
And unlike previous short-term fixes, the threat is real this time, American Medical Association (AMA) President Jeremy Lazarus told Forbes. The decision of lawmakers will determine the outcome of Medicare cuts that hang in the balance in these final weeks of the year.
Unless Congress and the White House administration can agree on plans to avoid the fiscal cliff, a 27 percent reduction in Medicare payments will go into effect Jan. 1, 2013--12 days from today.
Providers, particularly AMA, have lamented over the short-term stop gap measures--15 of them in the past decade--to the sustainable growth rate formula under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, Forbes noted.
"For physician practices, it is a terrifying situation," Lazarus said about the reductions that could cost upwards of $35,000 per physician.

Another example of what the MSM is not writing about.
The ama was all in for obamacare. Now what. Be careful what you wish for.
At least he didn’t say “Baited breath”
Im on Medicare and a supplemental plan. I pay monthly premiums for both as well as co-pays.
Medicaid is provided at no cost and better coverage. Will Medicaid be cut?
The correct spelling is actually bated breath but its so common these days to see it written as baited breath that theres every chance that it will soon become the usual form, to the disgust of conservative speakers and the confusion of dictionary writers. Examples in newspapers and magazines are legion; this one appeared in the Daily Mirror on 12 April 2003: She hasnt responded yet but Michael is waiting with baited breath.
Its easy to mock, but theres a real problem here. Bated and baited sound the same and we no longer use bated (let alone the verb to bate), outside this one set phrase, which has become an idiom. Confusion is almost inevitable. Bated here is a contraction of abated through loss of the unstressed first vowel (a process called aphesis); it means reduced, lessened, lowered in force. So bated breath refers to a state in which you almost stop breathing as a result of some strong emotion, such as terror or awe.
Shakespeare is the first writer known to use it, in The Merchant of Venice, in which Shylock says to Antonio: Shall I bend low and, in a bondmans key, / With bated breath and whispring humbleness, / Say this .... Nearly three centuries later, Mark Twain employed it in Tom Sawyer: Every eye fixed itself upon him; with parted lips and bated breath the audience hung upon his words, taking no note of time, rapt in the ghastly fascinations of the tale.
For those who know the older spelling or who stop to consider the matter, baited breath evokes an incongruous image; Geoffrey Taylor humorously (and consciously) captured it in verse in his poem Cruel Clever Cat:
Sally, having swallowed cheese,
Directs down holes the scented breeze,
Enticing thus with baited breath
Nice mice to an untimely death.
medicaid proivders will be cut. it varies by state but most state medicaids pay off the medicare fee schedule
The reality probably is that Medicare was cut under Obamacare so that more people could be added to Medicaid.
And it is telling that we never hear talk about cuts to Medicaid and other welfare programs in all the fiscal cliff and general budget deficit talks. They just talk about cutting the programs working folks paid into their entire working lives.
But of course, "we can't balance the budget on the backs of the poor".
I'm sure you noticed my pet peeve in the above sentence. Than is a choice; then is a time, and half the ignorant sons a %%%%%%%% in America get that wrong, even in magazines and newspapers. They're supposed to be professional writers fer Krise sakes.
They lied to you. There is no money for Medicare obligations. Hope you saved money.
Appears to be a duplicate thread.

Houston We Have A Problem
But I have read that the AMA dues paying membership is about 29% of the total doctors who are practicing in the U.S.
I have read that they were criticized for not opposing the Obamacare disaster enough.
I turn 65 in 3 days and I may be dreaming, but I wish for the days when doctors care, fees and services offered were between the doctors and the patients.
Socialism (and Obozos Fascism) are national death by bureaucrat.
...”The ama was all in for obamacare. Now what. Be careful what you wish for”...
YES!
...”Im on Medicare and a supplemental plan. I pay monthly premiums for both as well as co-pays.

My understand is that Obamacare has taken money from medicare to give it to younger people..The implication is clear..Old people must die and get out of the way. A panel of non-medical government bureaucrats will decide your fate. Some have called them the “death panel.” While they will not actively do things to kill you, they will just see to it that you will not be treated. I have even heard that pnuemonia may not be treated..I realize all this may not be accurate, but, since we had to pass the bill to know what is in it (Nancy Pelosi), who knows anything. I do know this..They plan to phase out doctors, especially our specialists..You will be seeing a nurse practitioner for most of what ails you which scares the $%&*#@ out of me. Young people out there..Take my advice..Become a nurse practitioner..They will be in the catbird seat..Obamacare is seeing to it.
Yep. Just read a artile about this from the AAFP. Urging physicians to be prepared. Decision to opt of Medicare needs to be considered. Many physicians will decide to stop accepting Medicare in the next few months if this is not fixed. Medicare payments are already very low.
Ah, yes, I noticed that, too! Good call.
No! That can’t happen. Why can’t people just get things right?
Another pet peeve - when people say “I could care less.” instead of “I couldn’t care less.” Well, if you could care less, then what you are saying is meaningless. *sigh*
And don’t get me started on the use of apostrophes in plurals! ;-)
You are correct. Bated and abated are very similar. His abated (bated) breath means his breath held in suspense as he waits to hear something important.
Sorry 0bama, I dont feel like going just yet.
Whats most telling is that some of the people who are most supportive of reform are the very medical professionals who know the health care system best. Barack Obama, October 5, 2009.
We all remember the highly publicized Rose Garden ceremony of smiling doctors in their white coats standing alongside a glowing President Obama (you look very spiffy in your coats, he approvingly noted) in his attempt to validate his Affordability Care Act to the public before its details were even exposed to public scrutiny.

And we also recall when the AMA endorsed ObamaCare at its inception, an endorsement that led many Americans to believe Americas doctors supported the dramatic changes to the U.S. health care system.
The problem is that, unbeknownst to the public and the press, the AMA represents only about one fourth of the nations doctors.
