Will This Be "The Year Without A Santa Claus?" (Make Christmas Happen!)
Boston Herald ^ | December 21, 2012 | Michael Graham

Maybe Bill O’Reilly is right about the whole “War On Christmas” thing.

I can’t recall a December when Christmas felt so embattled, so under fire — not from the PC police or fights over “Hanukkah Shrubs.” I mean the joyous spirit of Christmas itself.

Are you seeing any joy this year? Or does it feel like fate itself has declared that Christmas shall not come this year?

The horror of the Newtown, Conn., massacre would shake us at any time of any year. But coming so close to Christmas, it has cast a pall over the entire season. One minute you’re listening to the radio and humming along to “Jingle Bell Rock,” the next you’re getting the headlines of the next burial of a 6-year-old.

Then there’s the pre-Christmas cash crunch from the “fiscal cliff.” While the North Pole may be beyond the reach of Washington’s partisan idiocy, working moms and dads aren’t. As they do their Christmas shopping this weekend, they have to wonder what’s going to happen to their taxes before the credit card bill hits in January.

It’s possible that Americans could face a $494 billion tax hike next year — about $4,000 from the average Massachusetts worker’s paycheck — starting Jan. 1.

More people filed first-time jobless claims last week, consumer confidence is getting shakier — oh, and did I mention you might not even be reading this right now because the world just came to an end!

Ho, ho, holy crap! Even the Mayans are trying to ruin this Christmas.

I can’t remember a Christmas season where I had to work so hard just to remember that it’s Christmas. Usually the parade of Claymation classics on TV does it for me — Let me hear...

Neither the National scene nor the economy “bring” Christmas joy. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior. Remembering this and being happy in the fact that He was born is reason enough to be joyous. In fact that “joy” can overcome all the other trials and sadness in your life if you will only believe.

Blame liberals. Every regulation or policy has been exploited on purpose. I went to grade school in the early 70’s and never had a gun or knife policy. Nobody was shot or stabbed.

Ever since the libs took over the schools, their stupid policies have been exploited by the nuts, who ironically vote liberal.

I wasn’t doing too bad with the Christmas spirit, until the time came tp put out the Christmas lights.

The person who invented lights that all go out when one goes out needs to be keelhauled.

IMO it’s just a way to sell you new lights every couple of years.

As I fought trying to get these damned things to light I got madder and madder.

I took every sting string of these things and tossed them in the trash and got out the old lights I had for 40 years . Big old lights that actually light. If a bulb goes out you replace it.

The old bulbs some of the have all the color scratched off of them, but they light.

I take an oath never—never to buy another string of lights that go out when one bulb will not light.

This Christmas carol—written in 1864 by the poet Henry W. Longfellow and set to music in 1872—is appropriate for our times.

I HEARD THE BELLS ON CHRISTMAS DAY

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound the carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn, the households born
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”

I can’t recall a December when Christmas felt so embattled, so under fire — not from the PC police or fights over “Hanukkah Shrubs.” I mean the joyous spirit of Christmas itself.

Well surprise surprise. The demonic-rats don’t feel the Christmas spirit. Wonder why, could it be that the Christmas spirit is created by Christians. Perhaps after a long year of being demonized by liberals, the media, and Hollywood that culminated with a questionable election, cover ups, and a food stamp, free cell phone president who wants to replace charity with government programs (less 45% handling fee); that Christians are not merry enough to please liberals.
Maybe these dis-spirited have come to realize that they State were born and raised in have become moral cesspools where their views have been ridiculed and their influence has been completely shut out. So with heavy hearts they feel obliged to uproot their families and flee the most populated States, to place where they feel welcome.
Here is a newsflash: Christians can and do get depressed. As society rips Christ out of Christmas all that is left is an empty day off work fill with meaningless re-gifting of days gone by.
And as for all the demonic-rats as they gleefully watch the dis-spirited Christians pack up and leave to run the States unopposed; take note- they take with them their values of Charity - Volunteerism - and Community Outreach. If you think the Christmas Spirit is hard to find today watch out for the Spirit of Christmas yet to come.
