A Virginia man was arrested Wednesday after police say he brought a 2-by-4-foot board with the words 'High Powered Rifle' written on its side into Sandy Hook Elementary School in the town of Strasburg, MyFoxDC.com reported.

Christopher Johnson, 33, was apparently trying to bring attention to how easy it is to bring a weapon into a school, Scott Proctor, a major at the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s office, said. Johnson was reportedly detained by a school resource officer before he was taken into police custody.

Thankfully the wise legislators in Kalifornia have outlawed the Bushmaster by name. Of course, virtually identical rifles with other names engraved above the serial number are perfectly lawful as long as you remove the pistol grip, flash suppressor, folding stock, and some other nonsense.

How a mass murderer could possibly kill dozens of small children without a pistol grip or a flash suppressor is a mystery to these same legislators.

I hope all the bird hunters, many of whom just aren't too interested in protecting gun rights and who were convinced that nobody was ever going to take away their guns, are paying close attention to what is happening. After all, nobody needs a semi-automatic shotgun.

In a rational country this idiot would be dead at the hands of teachers and parents.

Had someone actually attacked the school at that moment, you would have been defenseless, and unable to show how having someone on school property covertly armed would help put a stop to this nonsense.

Well, even as I "overreacted" and am "smug" (dismayed is more like it) I follow the rules, especially the gun rules. (Oh, wait, did you miss your /sarc tag? I really hope not!)

What was he charged with?

Probably trespass.

The last line of the article is:

Johnson is being held without bond and will undergo a mental evaluation.

That is perhaps the scary part of the story. They threw him into the loony bin. That is what the Soviet Union did with “dissidents”.

No. I meant it.

I follow the rules,

The problem is we are playing a deadly game, and they don't follow the rules. That is why rules making schools 'gun-free' zones have only led to more deaths in schools.
