WHITE PLAINS (AP) -- Westchester County will not host a gun show early next year in the wake of the massacre in Newtown, Conn.
County Executive Rob Astorino said it would be inappropriate for the county to hold the event.
Former County Executive Andrew Spano had banned the show after the 1999 Columbine school shootings in Colorado. The ban remained in effect for more than a decade.
Astorino brought back the show in 2010.
His decision comes after Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner called on the county to cancel the show at the government-owned building.
Westchester Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins said banning such shows at the County Center was part of the answer to curbing gun violence.
The show's promoter, Westchester Collectors, didn't return respond to calls for comment.
Astorino, the present Westchester County Executive, campaigned on re-instituting gun shows to the Westchester County Center. He won election with the support of the Westchester County Firearm Owners Association (WCFOA), who campaigned for him because of his stance. It will be interesting to see how WCFOA responds to this turn of events.
“Westchester County will not host a gun show early next year in the wake of the massacre in Newtown, Conn. “
Huh, that’s weird. Iv’e never heard of a shooting spree at a gun show.......................only places where there AREN”T ANY GUNS!
I guess it is easier to blame the gun, rather than spend brain cycles on understanding the other 99 factors that contributed to the massacre in Newtown.
That, of course, will stop the townspeople from buying guns, right?
Rob Astorino is stained with the blood of the Sandy Hook massacre along with everyone who seeks to criminalize self defense.
Another nutless wonder dancing in the blood of the victims...so what else is new? BTW your comment on symbolism is spot on — the libtards are all about feeeelings, doncha know?
