Take a Break, But Don't Give Up

CALLER: Thank you, Rush. Love your show. First of all, happy holidays to you, your staff, your loved ones, and listeners.

CALLER: I want to give you a quick background on myself. I'm a white male in my mid-thirties. I work sometimes six to seven days a week. I go to school full time. I have a wife and two small boys. The reason why I do all this is because I need to be a role model for my boys and a man for my wife. That's my job, not the government's. I know eventually the Democrats will self-destruct as a party and, you know, the government will restore balance to this country. The point I'm trying to make to your audience is: Don't ever lose your high morals and values. Don't ever give up, stay optimistic, and eventually it'll pay off.

RUSH: Well, I know exactly what you're saying. Don't give up. Like Churchill said, "Never, never, never, never give up." Right now, I don't think a lot of people want to quit. I think people need some time off. It's been an intense year. There were a lot of expectations that turned out to be violently disappointing on election night. People felt this way when Clinton was elected in 1992, but this is a feeling that's a multiple of ten over that among people like you who have not compromised.

You have not give up on the kind of country you grew up in and want your children to grow up in.

Then you look at the Republican Party (I'm not being critical here, I'm just giving an honest assessment) and you don't see or hear anybody -- on a daily, regular, elected-person basis -- that speaks out in opposition to what's happening. You get somebody now and then who will say something and you cheer it, but there doesn't seem to be any leadership, politically right now, representing us. In fact, you might even think, "My God, there might not even be as many conservatives in the country or in Washington as we thought."

CALLER: Well, what's difficult with all of this is my family has money. My grandparents have money. My father has money. You know, I'm sitting in school trying not to think, "Eh, you know, I'd rather be at home. I'd rather be at home with my kids, my wife, my family."

RUSH: What do you mean you "have money"? You inherited money or do you well with your work?

CALLER: In their life. It's not my money. That's theirs. I have to instill in my boys, and as a normal person we have to instill these values back in society, 'cause we don't have any.

RUSH: That seems such a daunting task is what I'm saying. To a lot of people... You know, once the gravy train gets established and once it starts -- and once government is seen as the source of prosperity, once the government is seen as the source of fairness where grievances are addressed -- it's tough to turn that back, especially when you don't hear anybody speaking out against it, other than individuals who are not in any semblance of power to do anything about it.

So what's happened is that people do what you said. You are confident there will be an event, or a series of events, that will wake people up. Something will happen that will cause people to realize that this can't go on the way it is if we want to have lives and a country and live the way we have been and the way we've dreamed. You're exactly right. I always encourage people try to stay upbeat and positive about things, because you only get one life.

Life in general is gonna present you with lots of suffering. But you don't have to add to it. You don't have to invent your own. Life presents enough of it as it is. Despite what's happening in Washington or elsewhere, it shouldn't govern your life. I'm not talking to you specifically. Everybody in general. People need to seize this great gift of life, realizing it's the only one you'll ever have, and to try to do the most with it for yourself, for your family, however that manifests itself to you each and every day.

That's the best you can do, and then let that influence others around you, and that's how I think this thing gets turned around. I do have ultimate faith like you do that it will. We're too great a country, we have too much at stake, and the world needs this country. Just like, folks, I need you in this audience. Every year at Christmastime is when I really get thankful, and I count my lucky stars and my blessings for the fact that we're here 25 years. You people have no idea what you have meant to me and my family, and I can't ever repay you or thank you enough for it.

As an individual, the weapon that you are expected to use --- that General Washington and George Mason and James Madison would expect you to use --- is the pen.

Everywhere you see some leftist espouse the establishment of a police state, rebutt them. Write them simply; just a few select sentences.

Our duty right now, is to show up in numbers, in the media, making clear these facts:

Various wordings of the Second Amendment were tried during its development. The end result *purposefully* leaves out any enumeration of reasons why an individual has the right to keep and bear Arms. Any reason *why* an individual may or may not keep and bear Arms, was left to the states and the people thereof, to settle among themselves.
The only enumeration in the Second Amendment focuses on what to do about a group of men under Arms - what is to happen when individuals who bear military grade Arms are in a group, and they *are* capable of exercising martial power. What *then,* was to become of that power?
The answer was, that both the states and the federal government would rely upon *the group* being formally mustered, well-regulated, well trained to Arms, well discplined, and answerable to civilian authority.
Both the states and the federal government sought unity of function and preparedness of the militia of each state. The state militiae should be "well trained to Arms" and be capable of, and mindful of, lawfully exercising martial power and respecting lawful civilian authority.
In the old days up to around WW-I times and for a while thereafter, there was a tradition of local militia drilling on the common, the town green, or the county fairgrounds. It gave people an opportunity to remain somewhat familiar with military duty; it helped to keep them from becoming too rusty. It demonstrated the proper practices and discipline *for all to see.*
It is a shame that most communities and counties and states got out of that practice.
All the uses of weapons, firearm or not, for non-military purposes, were left to be decided by the states and their people.
Again, there would be no condition within the Second Amendment, by which you do, or do not, have the right to keep and bear Arms; because, the Founding Fathers correctly anticipated that any such enumerated condition might be used as grounds for an individual to either be forced to bear Arms or be stripped of their Arms.

Unlike in previous years and times, when we would hope to go about our business, without having to worry about the ever-present leftist thought police, there will be this time, no rest for us into the foreseeable future.

No weapons other than the pen, will do more for us.

We will have to go at the leftists again and again and again; always working along their lines, searching for where there is opportunity to push them back.

We *are* now, deep in a cultural civil war. Rush is *wrong.* There will be no winter seclusion nor rest. We are in the fight to the end, and it will take *years,* just as General Washington never, never, never quit.

Practice here at FR, what you want to say. Use clips of what others have written.

There is plenty of ammunition here, for writing in our common defense, as you reply to the wild political charges that the left is urging toward the establishment of a police state and "peoples courts" designed to exterminate people who love liberty.

What may seem minor to you, a letter of just two sentences, to your state level representatives and senator, and to your U.S. Representative, and to your U.S. Senators, and to any newspapers' editors ... just that little part by you, turns out to be much more than you can imagine right now.

You do not have to wear yourself out with worry. Instead, simply participate - write those letters.

The leftists cannot stand to have people resist them *consistently.* The leftists *expect* people who love liberty to be overwhelmed with doubt.

The leftists *expect* their psy-ops cultural civil warfare to be the only fighter in the ring after the first round. The leftists *expect* people who love liberty to emotionally collapse.

You may not realize it, but you have studied these problems all your life time during which you wondered how the Germans could have allowed a police state to crush their liberties and open the way for nationalizing socialists to destroy the freedom of millions of people and then their lives.

What the left wants most, is to destroy your will to win.

The left is petrified upon discovering every one of us who loves liberty, who becomes capable of writing - using the pen - with the proficiency of our use of Arms in defense of liberties.
