Rev. Jackson: Armed police in schools not answer
AP ^ | December 21, 2012

Posted on 12/22/2012 5:16:18 AM PST by Tailgunner Joe

The Rev. Jesse Jackson says the National Rifle Association's call for armed police in schools is no solution to mass shootings.

Jackson reacted Friday after the NRA's top lobbyist said armed police were the only way to stop another tragedy like last week's mass slaying at a Connecticut elementary, where a gunman killed 20 students and six teachers.

Jackson says armed police officers "couldn't compete" with an attacker with an assault weapon, and that a ban on such weapons was needed.

He says he's disappointed that the NRA "showed no remorse" and offered more guns as a solution. He says bearing arms for hunting or self-defense is different from carrying assault weapons.

Why do govt officials have armed guards, if they are not the answer?

No need to have armed police in the schools. Just arm the principal and some of the teachers.

Sheesh, Maybe they should put more and bigger “No Guns” signs on the schools. They work so well now.

Or pass more laws like there are in Chicago, NYC, and DC and where they only kill 400 kids a year. /S

yep, a gun isn’t even necessary. Just drive your vehicle at high speed into a crowd of kids waiting to be picked up after school.

I think LaPierre was recommending armed guards as a fail safe. Clearly, from the remarks I HEARD, LaPierre correctly believes what we need is a changed CULTURE.

Jesse Jackass, though, is not interested in having strong families, a Christian culture, and a capitalist society...he is all about enslaving people into government dependence.

IMO, LaPierre was following the oft used political tactic of staking out the most extreme position as your starting point in negotiations.

Exactly. No more big government solutions from anybody. At most this is something for the states to decide but ideally it should be decided school district by school district.

Not every school needs armed security when its always possible that someone in the school might be armed. I'm a big fan of open carry but would want concealed only in schools to keep potential threats guessing.

I was quite pleased with the way the local school dealt with things yesterday when schools were closing in fear. They said they didn’t believe the threats were credible and weren’t going to reward bad behavior by closing for the day. They kept the main entrance and their eyes open and side entrances locked like always.

“couldn’t compete.” - like it’s some damn ball game.

One bullet in the right place....

A 1950’s J. C. Higgins single shot .22 would have been about 1000 times better than NOTHING!

“Ban assault weapons” seems to be a common theme here. DiFi has been working on a new AWB for at least a year. Just waiting for something like the latest tragedy to happen. The Colorado theater shooting was too close to the election for them to show their cards. The line create these gun free killing fields that everyone knows is just like baiting deer for the nut jobs.

Cops can’t compete with a nut with an assault weapon.

We know this is so because he said so.

What happened when the cops showed up?

He killed himself before they even got in the door.

The very thought that he was about to be confronted with armed cops was all it took to end it.

Why does the press continue to interview this idiot?

Forget CT Rev. How about the 466 school children murdered in Chicago this year alone. Or maybe he only has compassion about the white kids in another state. If there is going to be a national discussion, let us “Pareto-ize” and start where the problem is worst, Chicago and IL where the strictest gun laws in the country seem to be, using factual measurements, enabling increased school children deaths.

Should teachers be trained in the use of readily available fire extinguishers or is firefighting best left to the professionals?

Someone I know argues that using a firearm is too difficult and that guns in the hands of non-professionals will only result in the deaths of innocents.

Same ole mantra
