Mofaz: Following Orders Are Essential to our Survival
Arutz Sheva ^ | 22/12/12

Shaul Mofaz, Kadima chaiman responded to remarks made by Bennett to Channel 2 during an interview in which he said, "If I would receive an order to remove a Jew from his house and expel him, me personally, my conscience would not allow it. I would ask the commander for an exemption." Mofaz reacted, saying, "There is no place in Israel, not in the regular army and not in the reserve army, to disobey orders. One's political views should not affect his ability to perform a task. An evil spirit calling for disobedience in exchange for a handful of votes cannot affect the ability of the IDF to defend and fight. ... words uttered by Bennett are very serious but it's better they were made now - before the election and not after. As former chief of staff and defense minister I say clearly: following political and military orders are essential to our survival. "

THe officer is right to either ask for an exemption, or if none is given, to resign command.

Officers are people, moral agents, and especially if given illegal or immoral orders, have a duty not to blindly follow them.

The “I was only following orders” defense is TOTAL FAIL. You do not stop being a thinking moral being just because you have a uniform on.

Moshe Dayan’s soldiers should have shot him after he ordered the Temple Mount turned back over to the Arab Nazi Wakf in June 1967. IDF soldiers today should refuse to remove a single Jew from a so-called “settlement” home, whether it comes from the Defense Minister, AG, the corrupt Supreme Court, or the PM himself.

The IDF soldiers they send are usually Druze, who just love “following orders” of this kind.

For those who believe that the US military will not follow orders to detain, seize, or attack fellow citizens, take note.

Soldiers follow orders. That is how they are trained. Do not count on them not following orders.

Study history, and psychology.

To be under orders mean that you give a measure of your free will to your superior. Soldiers will follow most orders. Including some rather horrific ones.

That is what they are trained to do. We absolve them of the guilt of killing and destruction, saying it serves a greater good. To say “I was following orders” is not a defense is to damn all soldiers.

The example of the Holocaust is the usual one given, but take a close look at how the US handled the Indians.

Agreed. In Israel of all places, there should be an understanding of that concept - and there is with everyone except liberals.

“Soldiers follow orders. That is how they are trained. Do not count on them not following orders.”

Bzzzt! Wrong.

Kaddhafi ordered the Libyan army to attack Libyans. They said FU, Kaddhafi. More than 70% of the Libyan army deserted, took their weapons, joined the provincial militias and attacked Kaddhafi’s southern mercenaries and elite guard.

Ask Kaddhafi how that worked out for him. Oops! You can’t. He’s DEAD.

Are you trying to compare the US and Isreali army to Libya’s? Let’s just say there are massive differences in training

It’s real simple. The Libyan army refused Kaddhafi’s orders. They headed home to their provinces to protect their families. It’s basic human nature and has nothing to do with US or Israeli military training.

American soldiers and Marines will not kill their families in their beds. They are not Nazis, gestapo or eisengruppen. Get it?

“Mofaz” is a dumb ass. There are such things as illegal orders and if a soldier executes them he is as liable as the person who gave the order.

i was only following orders, is not a legal defense. didn’ t work for the nazisand it won’t work for anyone who follows illegal and/or immoral orders.

precedent has long bveen established. you ask not to follow it, if no reprieve is given, you resign.

and if you didnt clue in i am not talking about legitimate moral orders. and yes officers still have to have a moral filter working.

you want soldiers who will fire on us civillians and say they’re just following orders?

I know. Almost always Druze. And "settlers" should fire on them.

That’s exactly the excuse the government wants. Fire on IDF, regardless of religion, and they get to take off the kid gloves, not that they don’t occasionally club someone into a hospital bed anyway. Gotta find a way to spook the Druze, some sort of Druzish superstition or other that can be exploited, and then they’ll be scared to do Bibi’s dirty work for him.
