Each school should have 2-4 armed guards.(when it comes to people, ONE is rarely enough) Of course, the number of guards could vary, depending on the size of the schools. Two should be a minimum.

They should be paid ‘professionals’, and if a district complains about not having the funding to pay them, they can simply fire an equivalent number of Administrators to free up the money in their budgets.

The schools should not have to hire extra guards, though that's an option that they could use if the district can afford it. The affordable/efficient option that makes most sense is to allow teachers who wish and have demonstrated ability to carry (ie veterans, CCW holders, prior LEO experience, etc) to do so on campus, what ever their number. The school should pay for any currency or training required same as they might pay for other teacher training.

That approach has the added bonus of letting students see that the average citizen can and should be allowed to exercise their 2nd amendment right, as opposed to continuing the false hood that there is a privileged class who is allowed and the rest of us who should be disallowed.
