I’m in OH.

Coincidentally, I was just on the OHMR site; http://ohmr.ohio.gov/

I had no idea such an organization existed. Looks very interesting although the info on the site is pretty vague. Anybody here a member?

I’d have to lose a few lbs to qualify.

“(The feds are quick to “nationalize” state National Guard units, which I think is just a reserve branch of the Regular Army.)”

You are correct and that is why the liberal argument that the 2nd Amendment only applies to the NG is false. This argument says the NG is the modern equivalent of the colonial militia. It’s part of that dynamic constitution thingy. Therefore, the 2nd amendment only guarantees the right of the states to form the NG and not an individual RKBA.

The reason this is false is that the FF wanted a militia independent of federal control. The second reason is that USSC ruled (Dukakis v SecDef) that the federal government exercises plenary powers over the NG, ie, the NG is just a branch of the reserves. Something cannot be independent from something that has plenary powers over it.

Question:

What about women who haven’t previously been in the military?

Is there any info applicable to that?

And what about women between 45 and 65?

One of the prime causes of the armed rebellion against British rule was excessive taxation.
Perhaps those in Washington should take note of how history can repeat itself.
*wondering* ...Will the (voting) Citizenry hear the call?...
or keep watch the cr@p on ABCNNBCbs...liberal pablum

“Curious if anyone else has had similar thoughts? I’ve come to the conclusion that being fit, healthy and strong may be crucial in the coming years.”

Can’t hurt. Took me two heart attacks to finally pull my head out of my butt and get in shape. Not fit enough to take on a 20 year old commando, but I could give the average Joe Sixpack a noogie that would make him cry for his mama.

I'm 51, started walking everywhere not long after 9-11 and now walk at least 20mi/wk, also reinvigorated my MA practice, which is just as well, since in the 90's I used my hands on a would-be robber and lost my gun privileges as a result. Robbery unsuccessful, he's innocent, put an innocent man in the ER, I'm guilty. So I guess that disqualifies me from the regular militia (but I'd get good grades at sentry removal).

My regular proverb is if exercise is a part of your life anyway, practice an exercise that just might save your behind someday.

BTW last I heard my "victim" went to a state pen with his brother for holding up a package store. Ain't the justice system grand.

Yep. You see those signs about carrying an ax, bucket and shovel in the woods? You think that’s just so you have them to give to somebody else?We had a bad forest fire years back and one of my buddies was driving in the woods. He was mobilized to fight the fire. There’s too many people making money fighting fires these days, but if it gets bad enough, the government can grab you and make you work.

More recently, it was the unorganized militia that thwarted the Al-Qaeda hijackers of Flight 93 over Shankstown, PA on 9/11/2001.

If you're interested in a state defense force, and your state has one, I don't believe there are any gender restrictions.

Most SDFs appear to be primarily non-combat focused.

The images posted of the Ohio Military Reserve show many women serving. In Ohio, the age cutoff at the top appears to be 60, but other states may vary.

I would think that SDFs would be an excellent opportunity for women to serve their state.

The OKC bombing might have forever tainted many people on the word militia.

It shouldn't have, no militia or anyone who had ever been in a militia, was involved in that. It had nothing to do with militias.

I remember this guy, he was an exciting State Guard commander in Texas, until they booted him.

It can be brutally wrong sometimes, but it’s better than most. Glad the punk is segregated from the rest of us now.

Seems you’re making the best of it FRiend.
