We are receiving reports of a shooting incident on Rio Mills Road in Albemarle County. Albemarle County police are on the scene. Details are limited at this time, here's what we have so far:
People in the neighborhood reported hearing gunshots after police chased a car into the area.
The shooting incident was first reported at 11:50 a.m.
The area of the shooting incident is about halfway between the South Fork reservoir and the airport near the quarry on Rio Mills Road.
Police have formed a perimeter around a house on Rio Mills Road and there are officers in the woods around the house.
Police are still calling the scene "active" as officers search the woods along Rio Mills for a suspect.
There is one ambulance at the scene.
Charlottesville police confirm they're assisting Albemarle County police with traffic control at Rio Mills and Route 29 near the shooting scene.
Greene County Sheriff's Office is sending officers to assist.
Police have blocked off Rio Mills Road at Route 29.
look I know there are important people that live around there, these Christmas shootings are all over, what is special about this one?
I moved out of C-ville 30 years ago and no longer know the roads. Maybe you could give a little more info for those of us who don’t know what you are thinking about . . .

I haven’t been to Charlottesville in about 20 years when I used to go to the JAG School at UVA but why is it freep worthy that some fool fired a gun near C’ville?
Rio Mills isn’t really in “town”. I think C’ville is mentioned since it is the town closest by. Other sources I’ve read said the police forced a car off the road there. Perhaps the suspect(s) fled and that’s where the shots came from.. Time will tell.
That would be a hoot watching Shifflet cops shoot at nauughty Shifflet cousins.
I’ve been to Charlottesville and it is a nice town. Alas, it is also a bastion of liberalism. To me the article demonstrates that even nice towns and nice neighborhoods have crime. We hear a lot about hellholes like Chicago, but it doesn’t matter where you go, there is always going to be some criminal element around. If the libs continue their ways, the town will end up looking like Detroit.
...or Morris cops shooting at naughty Morris cousins, or Shiflett cousins shooting at Morris cops, or...well, you get the picture.
The Shifletts and the Morrises-Virginia’s answer to the Hatfields and McCoys.
Seems to be a domestic dispute.
