Israel has given the green light for the fast-track development of a further 1,200 settlement units around Jerusalem. It brings the total number of new approvals to 5,500 in just over a week, the largest wave of proposed expansion in recent memory.
The latest plan, which would see almost 1,000 new apartments built over Jerusalem’s green line in Gilo, comes as the Israeli media is reporting mounting pressure on the prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, to drop his commitment to a two-state solution from his platform for re-election in January. …

I see no problem with more Israeli settlements built around the capital of Israel.
It seems there are still people around who either
1. naively think there will be “peace” if the Israeli lamb lies down with the Muslim wolves, (and think Israelis are STUPID because they kept giving land away in the past... )
OR
2. they still want to kill the Jews (or push the Israelis into committing national suicide).
People in group 1 can be reached and informed.
People in group 2 — maybe not.
It is difficult sometimes to discern which group some people fall into. We should not automatically think everyone is in group 2, but... alas....some really still are.
At any event, it is clear that the Israelis have learned (it sure took them a long time!!!!) not to give away any more land... or defense positions on the high ground, etc.
These are not "settlers". They are RESIDENTS.
There is no such legal or geographic entity as "East Jerusalem".

The Israelis could have “took” more, but they were more interested in removing the “Staging areas” of further attacks. (note,Golan Heights West bank,Gaza)
well they gave Gaza away and , Tah-Dah!” they are being shelled again.
It is a travesty the USA no longer supports a sovereign nation with such cultural, historical ties......
Exactly! This should be no more controversial than a plan to build 1,000 new apartments in or around Washington DC.
I am advised that American Christians are welcome to purchase a good number of houses in Israel, but not all of them. Isr has a long-standing housing shortage (caused in major part by their government’s deferral of construction permits in Jerusalem and several other communities). Housing on government lands is often given to those on (long) waiting lists, which are usually local people or recent graduates (or graduates from the IDF) seeking shelter for themselves or their families. There are some areas which may be restricted for security reasons (I’d guess, do not know but guess, this particular tract of houses may well be so restricted since it is probably pretty high up on the Arab terrorist bombing list.) Also, some of the smaller communities were founded by people seeking a place to raise their families according to certain beliefs or practices (like, some of the Orthodox Jewish towns...think maybe similar to an Amish “settlement” here in Ohio ...great place to visit but you probably wouldn’t really want to live there anyway). On the other hand, I am advised that there are many homes and condominiums (especially around Tel Aviv (the largest “modern” city, complete with beautiful beaches and mall shopping) and some of the nicer seacoast areas) which are “wide open” to American purchasers. There are also a number of brand-new developments (including some really nice looking luxury-style high-rise condominiums overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, etc., the pictures you can search out on the internet and some of them look super-nice...There are also some new buildings in Jerusalem itself which advertise on the internet and I’ve seen them saying they can help arrange mortgages for American and Canadian purchasers...). The biggest problem is not going to be finding a home you can buy there, but, maybe, affording it. The Israeli government’s failure or deferral in issuing building permits has caused a housing shortage generally there, and prices are very high ... see, for instance,
They issue mortgages in Israel but normally the down payments are (like many other countries) required to be higher than in USA.
I am not selling real estate so maybe someone reading this who has more knowledge can assist you further. I hope this helps.
yes so I understand. holding back some land makes good sense, particularly when your state has so preciously little to begin with, you may need a new defense base or public works project or school, etc. But, and I believe this is part and parcel of the very same problem, holding back too much land is just like withholding building permits, they do the very same thing....create a housing shortage for your citizens (while quite naturally pushing prices higher than a free market would sustain).
I stand corrected for not mentioning the land-banking, but if more land were released some of it would still get held up in the building permit process. same result: no homes.
Isr needs to release some of the land consistent with defense requirements and future public needs, issue building permits consistent with good zoning and community development principles, and let the private sector build build build!
That’s a big part of what the whole show is supposed to be about,after all.
