That mistranslation jumped out at me, though, because it is the difference between works based salvation and faith based salvation.

The author accurately assesses the continuing moral decline in the U.S. and recounts anecdotes about the fall of the totalitarian regimes in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The author herself admits it will take a miracle to reverse the decline in the U.S.
Sodom had their moral decline halted in 3123 B.C. But they paid a dear price to do it.
This can only happen if there is a non-communist country to which to flee. Remember, the true believers in communism think their system will only work if ALL countries are communist. No choice. No escape. I always thought that pretty well damned communism as a system, but apparently not to the true believers who think the past attempts, the ones where 30 to 50 million people were slaughtered, were simply examples of not trying hard enough.

If your standard is something as dramatic as the Berlin Wall coming down would you really notice if divorce rates were a little lower or a rise in illegitimate births was smaller than in previous years?
According to some statistics, divorce rates have been in decline since the 1980s and African-American illegitimacy rates have gone down since the 1990s, but nobody really comments on that.
The collapse of a tyranny can be a very dramatic thing. That's also true of strides made by liberty or license. Remoralization of society is slower and usually happens behind the scenes -- while people are still bemoaning the wretched morals of the age.
