Plea for help from Chinese labor camp worker paid $1.61 per MONTH found stuffed in Oregon woman's

Oregon mother Julie Keith expected to find Styrofoam headstones in the graveyard kit she bought at Kmart for Halloween.

What she didn't expect was a desperate plea for help from one of the Chinese laborers forced to make the holiday decorations in brutal conditions.

The 42-year-old charity worker from Portland discovered the chilling letter hidden between the two novelty headstones when she opened the kit in October.

'Sir: If you occasionally buy this product, please kindly resend this letter to the World Human Right Organization,' the unsigned note, that was folded into eighths, read.

'Thousands people here who are under the persicution [sic] of the Chinese Communist Party Government will thank and remember you forever.'

The letter's author said the Halloween product was made in Masanjia Labor Camp in Shenyang, China, where laborers are forced to work for 15 hours a day without time off on the weekends and holidays.

'Otherwise, they will suffer torturement, beat and rude remark. [sic] Nearly no payment,' they wrote in choppy English accompanied by Chinese characters.

The plea said workers at the labor camp make only 10 yuan per month - the equivalent to $1.61.

The China director at Human Rights Watch, Sophie Richardson, told The Oregonian that the origin or authenticity of the letter couldn't be confirmed.

Didn’t know that many Chinese workers could write in English.

Don’t doubt the facts in the letter though.

These are re-education labor camps. Would stand to reason at least one would be somewhat educated. It’s not a sweat shop where people can’t do anything else but work there.

Exactly. These labor camps are AKA re-education camps. Basically, they are jails for criminals who are often held without a trial.

We Americans can gasp and act offended at the harsh realities of the Chinese system. All the while as we sit in a pot of water like a frog not realizing how warm its getting here in the USA.

The poor Chinese. They had no choice in living the Communist life. At least we Americans had a choice. At least we voted and elected in this lifestyle.

That makes a difference, right?

(right?)

Every new GM should come with a similar letter from a poor, downtrodden union member asking for a donation to the UAW.

Way to go, you numb nuts reporter. Make sure you describe exactly the item the note came from. Guess you could have included closeup photos and dusted for fingerprints while you were at it.

I read this yesterday on Fox website. Only I think that report said the item was purchased at a Goodwill, a resale shop.

gang rape and stoning to death of women in the arab countries....burning of Christian churches....slavery endemic in the north of Africa and in other middle eastern countries....political prisoners in China becoming human organ donors and slaves....

these are the real "inconvenient" truths.....the truths that the hollow-wood crowd and the elite SCM rather not talk about it....

basically because they don't care...they only care about issues they can rant on to feel so superior...actually ending atrocities is not in their game plan...

So that old joke, "Help, I'm a prisoner in a Chinese cookie factory" on the fortune in your fortune cookie isn't a joke?

You would be surprised at the number of Chinese people who do speak English.

Right you are. My room mate in College (and my best friend) were Chinese. Got to know him and his family well.

We'll have to find another way of sending the notes - packing them in with items that we manufacture and export clearly won't work.
