then-Pittsburgh Penguins coach Kevin Constantine gave an interview to the local press about his two adopted children. Both were adopted in Canada when he was coaching there. He and his wife both commented that they would never adopt in the U.S. because under our laws the adoption never really does become final.

He’s been gone for about 10 yrs. so maybe things are different now. I don’t know.

He was misinformed.

In the US children who are legally free are adoptable. Legally free means that they are US citizens, do not belong to the Tribes and both bio parents have signed off on the adoption. Bioparents cannot be married. That is the bar to jump. Done it four times. My kids are in their teens and twenties now.
