The British writer-philosopher C. S. Lewis wrote, Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under Omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
The tragic events at Sandy Hook brought out the instant conscious of the liberal. While hundreds of parents were living the moment of terror at the school, not knowing the fate of their child, Mayor Bloomberg took to the airwaves to call for gun control.
It takes a special kind of low life to politicize a tragedy and horror at the moment it is in progress. My instant thought was, what a scumbag and stated so on my Facebook. The local political reporter felt it appropriate to print my comments in the newspaper as he was jarred by those comments. Wonder what was his intent?
Then New York Journal columnist Dwight R. Worley felt, with the blessing of his conscious, to publish the names and addresses of lawful conceal carry gun owners in New York. Wonder what is Worleys intent?
But nothing says liberty and the right to bear arms more than the opinion of Judge Larry Alan Burns while sentencing Jared Laughner in the Gabby Giffords shooting tragedy.
Wrote Burns, Ban the manufacture, importation, sale, transfer and possession of both assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Dont let people who already have them keep them. Dont let the ones that have already been manufactured stay on the market. I dont care whether it is called gun control or a gun ban. Im all for it.
The liberals are circling the wagons around your second amendment rights. For only they know what, as Senator Dick Durbin says you need. We have a Bill of Rights not a Bill of Needs says Constitutional scholar and talk show host Mark Levin.
We are not to be concerned when President Obama says its time to take meaningful action while naming Joe Biden to head a commission to determine what you need? You know, the same Joe Biden who was put in charge of the Stimulus to ensure not one dollar would be wasted? What could possibly go wrong with Biden a long time gun control proponent determining what you need?
Then theres the fiscal cliff charade. Obama and Boehner assign themselves the power to determine how much certain citizens are allowed to keep from what they earn. The 1% who own the political class will write in exclusions for themselves, Obama will protect the 50% who dont pay taxes, which means 49% will have their taxes go up to support the 51%.
However taking the liberal cake this week were the liberals at Bloomberg writing about the new capitalist China. Seems the history of tens of millions (unarmed) killed at the hands of the communists has led China to economic freedom?
To quote the Bloomberg columnists on China, Now with the children growing up in an essentially capitalist environment, theyre even further from a classless society and any sort of utopian dreams. To which my retort on America, Now with the 60s radicals growing up in an essentially Marxist environment, theyre even further from individual liberty, and any sort of God given inalienable rights.
The next four years will prove a great test for those who believe in liberty for everyone. The low information citizens, like French citizens, believe by ceding power to big government to confiscate the wealth of fellow citizens, to be redistributed back to themselves is a never ending proposition.
Regrettably the socialist does run out of other peoples money to spend and they end up like Greece where mobs of those having lived for years on government handouts take to the streets, riot, burn businesses, and attack the police.
But we are not to be worried in America, that could never possibly happen here. At least according to the moral busybodies like Obama, Biden, Durbin, Bloomberg, and Judge Burns. They will determine what you need and what you keep. These liberals will define your liberty.
The writer is correct. As those who call themselves "progressive" censor and try to blot out the ideas essential to liberty, technology works against them, for never in our lifetimes have the writings, speeches, and underlying ideas of our Constitution been more available to every home in America. Those ideas, if rediscovered, can help to relight the lamp of liberty.
The people in America have now the best opportunity, and the greatest trust, in their hands, that Providence ever committed to so small a number, since the transgression of the first pair: if they betray their trust, their guilt will merit even greater punishment than other nations have suffered, and the indignation of heaven." - John Adams, January, 1787
Liberty, under the Founders' Constitution, as others have stated, depends upon a virtuous and knowledgeable citizenry.
John Adams stated:"The foundation of every government is some principle or passion in the minds of the People."
The Founders' principle was LIBERTY. The virtue among the people often referenced by the Founders was linked to this love of liberty referenced by John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court:
"Let virtue, honor, the love of liberty . . . be the soul of this constitution, and it will become he source of great and extensive happiness to this and future generations. Vice, ignorance and want of vigilance, will be the only enemies able to destroy it."(Quoted in "Our Ageless Constitution" Essay entitled, "Virtue Among the People" available here
Rediscovering and understanding the principles which made the American Constitution a protection for liberty may be the most important task of our day, and time is running out. The "enemies" already have censored these principles from the nation's textbooks and much of our public discourse.
If every person on this thread and every person involved in the TEA Party movement would commit himself/herself to understanding and then sharing the ideas of liberty with at least 3 people, what a difference that might make! Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny," Schweikart's "A Patriot's History of the U. S.," and Stedman and Lewis's "Our Ageless Constitution" lay out these principles in easy-to-understand language and are an excellent means by which our own "dumbed-down" generations can be exposed to the truly revolutionary principles by which our liberty was obtained.
“Your liberty is defined by liberals”
May Gawd help us all
That’s “conscience”, by the way...
Forcing people to do what they don't want to do "for their own good" is paternalism.Libtards lose sight of the fact that in a free society, the fundamental basis of achieving the individual's good is his guidance by his own independent rational judgement. They show absolutely no respect for the character of people as rational beings, who must be persuaded by facts and logic, not compelled as though they were brutes, in the the name of something allegedly more valuable than their free choice and judgment and their dignity as rational beings.
The principle that libtards ignore is each human being is the possessor of reason, is valuable and competent, and should be free to run his own life and pursue his own happiness in accordance with his own independent rational judgment. Overturning this principle opens the floodgates to unlimited destruction through the use of physical force to overrule people's judgment, and thus, to prevent them from achieving their well-being or to compel them to act against their own well-being.
All the liberals will end up doing is simply make possible a second American revolution or civil war.
All the liberals will end up doing is simply make possible a second American revolution or civil war.
Bottom Line reminder: There’s nothing liberating about liberalism. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
