Years ago I knew of a judge who had enough of repeat domestic violence victims appearing before him, so he started to issue bench orders requiring that they be armed in public. He also issued them documents to show to police if they questioned her being armed.

And he said if they could not afford to buy their own gun and ammo, he would pay for it. When the police found out about it, they took up a collection to buy guns for these women as well.

The judge proudly noted that the number of repeat victims appearing before him dropped to zero, though no shooting was ever attributed to them.

Unfortunately, he retired long ago and his program was discontinued by his replacement.

If that judge had been in NC fifteen years ago, maybe my best friend and her unborn son would still be alive.
