Colorado's crush of gun checks requires more money, officials say

DENVER - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is planning to ask lawmakers for $500,000 to help it more quickly process the huge backlog of background checks for gun buyers that has swamped the agency after the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The Denver Post reports that in November, it took an average of 23 minutes for a gun buyer in Colorado to get a criminal-background check. The wait time now has stretched to nearly seven days as the CBI struggles with the backlog of more than 11,000 applications.

CBI spokeswoman Susan Medina says the supplemental appropriation would be used for more staff and technology.

Meanwhile, state Rep. Claire Levy, a Boulder Democrat, has suggested that gun buyers pay a fee for the background checks.

Idiots. Just change the state law and accept the federal NICS check. It is sufficient. Criminals don’t buy guns where they have to have a background check. Morons.

Nope. Don't change a thing. If they don't reply with either yes or no in three days, the sale is complete.

Well, it is Colofornia now isn’t it? Not to denigrate everybody in CO, but they did help put uncle hussein back in office again didn’t they? Sadly a lot of kalifornia folks are moving east to NV for more “freedom” but they are bringing some of their “great” ideas with them to mostly the Washoe county area. LV is hopelessly lost to the unions and uncle hairy’s influence. The rest of the state is thankfully conservative but can’t outvote LV no matter what. (Kind of like kalifornia east. Annexation feared! Help! Not really:>) CO rural areas can’t outvote Denver and CS either.

Where do the Democrats get these morons? Claire Levy wants us to pay for a Constitutional right yet she is happy to pay for every lazy Democrat voting criminal that out making bastard children.

More like Colofornistan.

30+ years ago, I spent a few summers at a Boy Scout camp near Elbert. Much of that time was spent at the rifle and archery ranges, either as a camper or, later on, as councilor and instructor.

The libtards who’ve infested the surrounding area since then regularly complain that the noise from the ranges is “scaring away the deer”.

There were plenty of deer there back in the 70’s, and no libtard McMansions.

Thus, evidently deer need protecting from Libtards. Just sayin’.

I went to the site to leave some comments but they want you to sign up via Facebook, and only Facebook. I find more and more news sites doing this. Facebook must be paying them in order to get new members.

Others at least will offer Yahoo or Google.

Where is due process?

11,000 pending checks and no end in sight. But maybe this was all part of the plan anyway. Like a forced waiting period.

Just wait... it could get really bad if there was a real natural or unnatural disaster.

Stock up folks. Start building your arsenal for a time when you can’t get firearms to defend yourself in a reasonable amount of time.

I just did my conceal carry renewal with the Sheriff’s department and they said there might be a delay in processing because they use the same background check process. So not only are new gun purchases straining the system but so are background checks for renewals and new CCW permits.

Maybe they’ll “run into” a few deer in their Escalades and help keep the population down. A lot quieter than the trusty old 30-06 bangin’ away. Might cost a little more than a round or two to take one out.
