Look friend, I’m an American. I’ve walked around my share of large American cities, and I’ve walked around a number of British cities. I felt a lot safer walking around Brit cities. If you think large Brit cities are more violent than large American cities, you’re being misled. They might have more property crimes, but they’re for sure not nearly as violent as large American cities.
Have to agree. Wandering around in the dark in Oxford trying to find a Brit who could speak American, I wasn’t worried about my safety - just about finding my hostel near the train station!
(Started out on directions from Brit to the train station - almost ended up trying to walk to London. Gave up and took a cab...)
On the other hand, I nearly go mugged wandering around in New Orleans - in broad daylight!
