Unbelievable. Everyone has bought into the idea that politicians and “planners” can fix everything and do a better job of producing progress and prosperity than the free market can. Will people ever learn?

Hey c'mon, 5 year plans and a centrally planned economy worked so well in the Soviet Union. Just look how they're doing today! ... Oh, that's right - they don't exist any more, their economy and entire empire imploded!
