Old news? This decision was handed down on December 11th - before the Newtown CT shootings.
But the bureaucratic hoops and the costs associated with getting a concealed carry license will be so burdensome that the lifting of the ban will, for all practical purposes, be negated by the politicians! Just like D.C., New York and other places. The courts have yet to strike down these “shall not be infringed” unconstitutional restrictions. There are many more court actions yet to come.
Was this the ban on law abiding citizens? I know the criminals have CCW’d for years.
Jokes aside, even with this ruling, it may be difficult to impossible to get a CCW in Chicago.
They claimed a win when they defeated Washington DC’;s gun laws too, but few people got guns. What they will get are new regulations no one can conform too. Just like DC.
About the only real resolution to this will be for a court to appoint a special master to vet gun restrictions before they are made, as to their being constitutional or not.
This would short circuit the back and forth of writing illegal gun laws, knowing that they will be overturned in a year or two, but remain in effect during that time. Then writing another batch.
The Special Master regulation came into effect because of equally intransigent politicians defending segregation, who spent their time crafting endless new laws to defy desegregation.
Don’t be so optimistic. Look at Maryland. It has a concealed weapons law, but just try to get a permit.
