Feds phase out more light bulbs in 2013

HOUSTON -- At the Light Bulb Depot near his home in The Heights, Randy Gingrich just bought another batch of florescent bulbs. “Since I started three years ago, I haven’t replaced a compact fluorescent yet,” he says. “So I’m happy with that.” “In my ceiling fans, each one of mine has four lights,” says Allen Tabb, who’s been selling light bulbs for 16 years. “So instead of using 240 watts of electricity, I only use 60 watts of electricity. And I get the same light output.” Sure, fluorescent bulbs are more expensive than old-fashioned incandescent bulbs and some people complain about losing a special glow in their homes. But in the long run, homeowners say they’re cheaper. Besides, pretty soon Americans won’t have much choice. As the New Year arrives, new rules bring the nation closer to the end of the traditional incandescent light bulb. Energy efficiency legislation adopted by Congress and signed by former President George W. Bush in 2007 is gradually phasing out the standard bulbs that have illuminated American homes for more than a century. The new rules have applied to 100 watt bulbs since the beginning of 2012. In 2013, the restrictions have expanded to 75 watt bulbs. In January 2013, the new rules will apply to 60 and 40 watt bulbs.

If fluorescent bulbs were of such great economic value then their use would not need to be mandated. This is nothing more than big government imposing the leftist green ideology upon the people -both people that do not want them and the ignorant people; useful idiots quoted in such articles as the above.

I replaced 35 lamps in the hallways in our man camp, now less than a year later one third have burned out. The fuel savings is great, the quality of the lights suck.

But I see that as a Chinese problem. We can’t make these bulbs here because of the EPA, so we import our mercury from China.

A second problem I am a bit worried about is that CPF lamps do not work in sub zero temperature areas. Not sure what I will do with all our outdoor conex lighting. Guess I will just stock a few hundred bulbs.

Central planning is the belief that someone somewhere is smarter than anyone anywhere.

That dog don’t hunt. Eats a lot and poops a lot though.

The best place to put mercury is deep underground, like nuclear waste.

So I chose a land fill.

Don’t tell anyone I used to shin pennys with mercury when I was a kid, there is more mercury on a silvered penny than a hundred light bulbs.

A wonder that America survived children in the 50’s

America continues to slouch into a Socialist dictatorship.

My eyesight is getting worse as a result of the ever dimming of lights (not just trying to read at home but also at restaurants and stores). Hope Old Obama doesn't off those wearing spectacles as Pol Pot did.

There is a simple explanation: while the South Koreans are working the nights in backbreaking capitalist factories, the North Koreans are having a ball on luxurious cruise ships whose lights are seen in the upper part of the picture.

This is reidiculous. Next thing you know the gubbmint will be telling us how much water our toilets will flush... oh wait.

Note that the carpet munchers and fudge packers are A-OK with the government dictating what size lightbulbs you have, what type of toilet you may install, what you can set your theromostat at.

Seems the bedroom police are only allowed to look at the table lamps. But they can also make themselves home in the bathroom and living room.
