Report: 532 Murdered in Chicago in 2012
weeklystandard ^ | Jan 1, 2013 | DANIEL HALPER

In 2012, 532 people were murdered in the city of Chicago, according to statistics compiled by the Crime in Chicago website. The number of people murdered the year before was 441, meaning in the city of Chicago, murders have increased by 91 from 2011 to 2012.

The Chicago Police Department was not available to confirm these numbers today, which is New Year's Day.

The website also claims that, through December 25, 2012, there 2,670 people were shot in Chicago last year. That's also an increase from the year before, when 2,217 people were shot in Chicago that year.

In all, it means that on average almost 1.5 people were murdered in Chicago each day last year, while on average 7.3 people were shot each day.

Official numbers from the city of Chicago appear to be a tad bit lower, however.

Last week Chicago marked its 500 homicide this year. "The city has seen its 500th homicide for 2012, a tragic number that is reflective of the gang violence and proliferation of illegal guns that have plagued some of our neighborhoods," said Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy in a statement last week.

"Every homicide in Chicago is unacceptable to me and the hardworking men and women of the Chicago Police Department, who, this year, achieved a record drop in overall crime throughout our city."

The mayor of Chicago is Rahm Emanuel, who came into office in 2011.

A 20% kill rate with all of those shootings!!?? A lot of people can’t shoot straight in Chi-town.

Credit medical advancement in trauma care....the same reason we have so few fatalities in military operations.

But we need to take a page from the liberal handbook: they focus not just on the number of troops killed, but also those injured and maimed.

If we did the same with US crime rates, it would reveal the tens of thousands of attempted murders with knives, rocks, bats, cars, etc.

Instead, we allow the media to focus on the homocide rate and link all of it to firearms (which is a lie).

Interesting how Chicago murders are news but the homicide rate is almost double in Baltimore, where I live. I wonder how many other cities have higher rates than Chicago, and how many actual ‘reporters’ even care.

Chicago: - 532 out of 2.7 million = almost 20 per 100000
Baltimore: 217 out of .6 million = more than 36 per 100000

These dead Baltimoreans are nameless also.

I will bet some serious money that most of the shootings in "Bawlemer" were on the west side.

I won't go much further west in the city than the old B&O Rail Museum.

Somewhere in America the four or five members of the KKK are smiling. Blacks kill more blacks per year than the Klan killed in its entire time of existence.

West of the Jones Falls Pkwy. Interesting to see how further north the murders run.

The City sure went to heck after Willie Don Schaefer (RIP)
