A rail line from Delta Junction on through Canada would be a major tourist draw. Pretty rough country though, whatever they think it will cost to build will never be what it actually costs to build, its some seriously bad country for rail, too much permafrost, bogs, peat and of course grades.
Personally, I think schemes like this are only brought up to put pressure on the real projects like the Keystone XL.
If the bitumen will be produced anyways, and shipped via longer routes with more exposure to spills, it helps put down some of the environmental arguments.
Although using reason to rationalize with an unreasonable, irrational group is also a waste of time.
