Former State Rep. Scott Plakon Files To Run In HD 29

Newly elected Democrat State Rep. Mike Clelland, who shocked the political world when he upset Speaker-Designate Chris Dorworth in November, did not have to wait long to learn who will be challenging him to retake the seat.

While perusing the Florida Division of Elections web site today, I saw that former state Rep. Scott Plakon has just filed to run in HD 29 making this the very first Republican vs. Democrat state race for 2014.

Yes, Virginia, the next election cycle has begun!

This is good news for Central Florida conservatives as Plakon was chosen ‘Legislator of the Year’ by Americans for Prosperity-Florida in 2012 and compiled a 100% voting record with the Christian Coalition of Florida, the American Conservative Union and the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

Plakon was also the original sponsor of the Healthcare Freedom Act, a constitutional amendment that fell short in November that would have prohibited state laws that compel people or businesses to purchase health-insurance.

Plakon was unsuccessful in his 2012 run for reelection in a redrawn district that leaned Democrat. He was targeted by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, which billed his race as one of the top 10 ‘Essential Races’ in the country and steered significant outside resources toward his opponent.

Rep. Clelland will find he is up against a tireless campaigner and that Plakon is well known in a district that makes up much of his original district before being redrawn. HD29 is a heavy Republican district, which also works in Plakons favor.

Orlando Sentinel, September 19th, 2012:

"For the past four years, there has been no greater champion of conservative causes in the Florida Legislature than state Rep. Scott Plakon.

The Longwood Republican has fought to place new limits on abortion, decertify labor unions, repeal cap-and-trade laws and allow tax money to go to religious institutions. He has tried to limit food stamps, ban Internet café gambling locations, encourage pre-marital counseling and block the federal government's healthcare overhaul.

Along the way, Plakon has compiled 100-percent voting records with such organizations as the Christian Coalition of Florida, the American Conservative Union and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Americans for Prosperity, the tea-party backed group paying for TV ads to defeat President Barack Obama, chose Plakon as its Florida "Legislator of the Year."

Plakon was another solid conservative who had his district redrawn by the liberal Florida GOP “leaders”...the same people who who re-districted Allen West and Sandy Adams out of their US House seats...and pretty much helped liberal fart-sack Alan Grayson get back to Congress

The Florida GOPe is one wussified group of liberals...they have run out good conservative candidates...while working with the Black Racists to lynch George Zimmerman here in my county(GOP Gov Rick Scott and GOP AG Pam “Dark Meat” Bondi)

Scott Plakon would have been my rep. for the State House.

You bet this Florida conservative is major PO
