The First Presbyterian Church of Dallas will host a gun buyback program later this month in hopes of taking a few weapons off the streets and lending its voice to the national debate about gun control.
"I think today there is rarely a family or individual who has not been touched by some incident of a violent gun accident or death," said Reverend Bruce Buchanan who will run the program.
The gun buyback is actually a return to the church's roots. In 2000, First Presbyterian Church of Dallas held the first of six annual gun buybacks, collecting more than 500 guns.
Buchanan says as the nation debates gun control in the wake of the Newtown shootings, someone should speak for the victims of gun violence.

On the other hand, last time I looked, Academy Sports was selling Savage .22 semi-autos for $119. If this church will pay $200 for them, it would not be a bad deal.
I would not count on the church being bound by what the paper says... neither seem to be the brightest bulbs..
Maybe Reverend Bruce should talk to some homeowners who weren’t killed or some women who weren’t raped because they had a gun.
Freedom activists have purchased guns at these events in several states:

Hyperbole much?
This is just spiritual misdirection. How about preaching salvation through Jesus Christ and changing the hearts of people rather than purchasing inanimate objects?
I'm going to hold my own gun buyback program. No telling what kind of nice stuff might come across the table.
Lemme guess, PCUSA?
I bet if someone stood outside the Church on the sidewalk taking pictures of everyone bringing in a gun to this Church it would dampen sales bit time. I bet most of those who would bring a gun could be in legal jeopardy if they were actually photographed holding a gun.
The Church is providing a fencing operation for stolen guns.
Dallas voted for hussein.
I’d better money that these people want to close the “gun show loophole”... which would in turn make what they’re doing illegal.
Did they have an “airplane buy-back” event after barbarians flew airplanes into large buildings, killing thousands?
Which is why the sellers wouldn't want to be photographed taking said stolden guns into the Church to sell - felony gun charges and probation violations are such hassles to deal with.

Big Media would probably label such a photographer a Westboro Baptist protester and encourage all the “conservatives” who never read past a headline to come out and deal with him.
Maybe they already do that....
I wonder what rules a Dallas pawn shop has to comply with when someone brings a gun to them. Will the church be held to the same rules?
Good thing conservatives don't listen to big media.
“Lemme guess, PCUSA?”
Wow. Nailed it on your first guess.
