Off Duty Officer Who Saved Lives in Texas Movie Theater Shooting Deserves National Attention

By Polly Wogg December 30, 2012

Just two days after the tragedy at Sandy Hook, another shooting took place at a movie theater in San Antonio Texas. Did you hear about it? I didn’t. Why? Because no one died, thanks to an off duty police officer who shot the gunman.

Sgt. Lisa Cuello Castellano, a 13-year veteran of the police department, shot 19-year-old Jesus Garcia after he fired several times inside a restaurant and a movie theater parking lot. She saved several lives and was given a Medal for her actions.

The Movie Theater Shooting You DIDN'T Hear About

Deputy awarded Medal of Valor for shooting movie theater gunman

Sgt. Lisa Cuello Castellano was met with a standing ovation on Wednesday night. Bexar County Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz presented the 13-year veteran with the Medal of Valor for taking down a gunman on Sunday inside a south-side movie theater

So much for the argument that no concealed carry ever stopped a mass murder.

No, I didn’t hear about this.
And only 2 days after Sandy Hook?...This should have been a lead story, not another story about school children making paper snowflakes.

Have no doubt about it...the MSM is not our friend.

Had not heard this story. Officer Castellano is a SHERO. Thank God she was there that day, glad she was armed, and thankful for the lives she saved.

What is sickening is that the DUmmies/liberals would do several things:
Say that CCW doesn't count because she wasn't "civilian". She was a trained but off-duty cop.
Say that you don't "knoooowwww" (emphasized) the shooter was going to massacre people. Maybe the shooter just had to let off steam. "He was probably just some right-winger/tea bagger who just found out his wife left him for another woman. See another good reason for gun control"/DU
Did she kill him? I couldn't tell from the article. If she did, she was an out-of-control cop. They don't believe in the death penalty for those found guilty of massacres after 20 years of appeals.

Yep. they are just that sick and I bet if the article was posted on DU that half of those responding would responded above.

I've watched our county sheriff's deputys train at my club. I would not want those guys drawing a firearm anywhere near me.

Does anyone have a reference on this incident that describes Sgt. Castellano as anything other than an “off-duty police officer”? I am hearing reports that she was “working” as a mall security officer.

She did the right thing and is a hero, regardless. I am very supportive of CCW rights (I am a non-LEO with CCW permit) and the role that CCW can play in preventing crime, including mass murders. However, I don’t want our case to be undermined by missing this point.

So true, if the average person only knew! Hell, if freepers really knew, they would stop defending them at every turn when they kill dogs.

Yeah, but this wasn't a MASS MURDER of innocents by evil firearms, so it doesn't count. See!!??

Oh, wait...

Yes, and she was obviously trained better than those two NYPD jackasses that wounded three innocent bystanders while taking down a fashion designer last year.

They should have to take lessons from the little old man in Florida that took out two armed robbers at the Internet cafe the following week. And did I mention he didn't hit a single innocent bystander.

Every cop sucker that pulls out the old "you have know idea what they have to deal with" is going to have to explain THAT ONE if I have anything to say about it.

Correction: New York cops, pissing themselves and running away while trying to shoot fashion designer were blazing away in the middle of Time Square one month AFTER little old man demonstrated how it’s done at the Internet Cafe.
