I don't know the group "Downtown" but in 1971, Rod assembled his band mates from "The Faces" (Ian McLagan, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Ron Wood) for his first solo album Every Picture Tells A Story and turned in this classic version of the Motown giant:

After (Small) Faces, Kenny Jones went on to replace Keith Moon in The Who (1979) and Ron Wood joined The Rolling Stones (1975). McLagan went on to session work with The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Jackson Browne, Joe Cocker, Bob Dylan, Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Westerberg, Izzy Stradlin, Frank Black, Nikki Sudden, John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen among others and Ronnie Lane who passed away in 1997 with multiple sclerosis led his own band “Slim Chance” and worked with Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Andy Fairweather-Low, Joe Cocker and Paul Rodgers.
