A Trenton man conspired with the New York City police officer who has been dubbed the "cannibal cop" to kidnap a Manhattan woman and bring her to New Jersey so he could rape and kill her, federal prosecutors said today. Michael Vanhise, 22, is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, the FBI and the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York said in a press release.
Vanhise exchanged emails with New York City police officer Gilberto Valle, 28, who in October was charged with plotting to kidnap, torture, "slow cook" and eat women he tracked down through law enforcement databases.
Valle, a six-year police veteran, was arrested on October 24, two days before the FBI searched Vanhise’s home. The U.S. Attorney's Office described Vanhise as a Hamilton resident but public records list him as living on the 100 block of South Logan Avenue in Trenton.
