Heck of a way to ring in the new year! lol

The folks in that area were very lucky. We may see more big ones in 2013...

Been listening to FOX on and off, mostly off tonight and haven't heard mention of it.
Would think a mag 7 or so would be worth a mention, unless I missed it.

It hasn't been in the MSM much, even before the amount of damage was known - luckly very little.

Not sure why... It's listed as a 7.5 and very shallow!

I recall a similar magnitude event, just South of this quake, IIRC, not too many moons ago. Likewise, little damage other than fraying the nerves of the locals.

Think I remember that too, wasn't there a Tsunami worry for Washington and Oregon that didn't materialize.

Yes, wasn’t much of a tsunami at all. Strange area that is... I wouldn’t want to see a shallow M7.5+ in the GOM.

More importantly that marks the second large quake in the past six months along that same suducting area. An area dangerously close to the famed Juan De Fuca. Does that stress load and or unglue parts of that volatile subduction zone?

It for sure added stress....

Can we send ALGore into the interior of the Planet for discussions on Planet Earth’s Meltdown? Please?

Checking through different recordings of the quake...I came across Mt. Redoubt’s rso recorder.

Not a single hint of that big quake....kinda odd. Wonder what they have it set on...lol

Saw some interesing waves being generated on other recorders. It has me believing most of the movement occured with the Pacific plate, and slipping instead of subducting?

From the link you posted:

October 4, 2011: The signals from station RSO is currently troubled with radio interference from an unknown source. Station RSO is located 3 km (2 miles) south of the Redoubt summit and can be very sensitive to activity at the summit. A map showing the location of RSO and other Redoubt seismic stations is available at http://www.avo.alaska.edu/image.php?id=16308.

Ha! Typical government workers, lol... Takes 'em forever to do something. Reminds me of the "Daily Update" on the JPL Mars Curiosity page: "October 10, 2012 - Work Resumes with First Scooped Sample."
