She hit him five times out of five, hit him in the head and neck, and he went down, but he's not dead. This suggests she was not using a load with much stopping power. Her husband had better revisit this subject. Believe me, this this mama bear only has to hit somebody even once, and he would be stopped. For good.

For all the folks arguing caliber....

Placement is darn near everything. You can shoot a guy in the head with a 45, but if the bullet blows off part of his cheek, it won’t kill him. You can put 15 rounds of .40 into someone, and if you haven’t hit an artery or the CNS, they may live. You can put a 44 magnum thru the guy’s heart, and he’ll have enough blood left in his brain to shoot you back for 15-30 seconds.

With handguns, there is no certain one shot stop. Not unless you put the bullet thru the brain - and Gabby Giffords is proof that even THEN it isn’t a sure thing!

I sometimes carry a 5 shot 22 because it is tiny and better than a can of mace. I prefer to carry a 5 shot 38 because I can actually CONCEAL it on my body when it is 100 deg out.

For home defense, I prefer either my 7-shot 357, or my SINGLE ACTION 6-shot 357...because they are fun to shoot so I shoot them a lot. I gave my Ruger 45 acp away a few years ago because I had owned it for 20 years and still had the original box of ammo. When facing a bad guy in your home, it isn’t the time to try to remember if you took the safety off, or to have something in your hand you haven’t shot in 3 years.

Very compact guns with more power than a 38 are tough to shoot well. That is why a very compact gun isn’t the optimum for home defense. But the lady did well. She hit the target. Apparently none of the rounds hit a critical spot...but she got the job done. And NO ONE can guarantee a one shot stop with a handgun.

Those who like shooting semi-automatics and are good with them? Great! They are fine guns and excellent self-defense weapons. But they are not a substitute for being comfortable with the gun, good at shooting it, and HITTING what you are shooting at. Too many cops have sprayed too many bullets for me to believe the semi-automatic is THE solution for all people.
