As someone raised in the North East who has (believe it or not) had his "yankee" status revoked by the crackers, red necks, good old boys, etc.... I can tell you with great assurity my former neighbors do not have a clue about what we're like down here.

Worse, they are under the misapprehension that our sensibilities are not as legitimate as their own.
